A Splash of Colour - 02 Liners ft Heeseung
A tired Heeseung crossed the threshold, looking forward to just flop down on his bed with no intention of washing up or even changing his clothes. The poor boy was utterly exhausted after preparing for a solo stage.
He walked into the lounge of the dorm and froze. Taking a deep breath to control the swear words that threatened to spill out from his mouths and his left eye twitching, he smiled at the three boys who were lying haphazardly covered head to toe in colours.
Jay, Jake and Sunghoon avoided eye contact and chose to pretend as if they weren't drenched in paint.
Jay cleared his throat and still avoiding eye contact spoke up. "We...made dinner for you".
"We even cleared the kitchen and did the dishes", Jake piped up.
"We also did the laundry for you...?", Sunghoon chuckled awkwardly.
"What... happened?" Heeseung asked. The boy had given up at this point. Be the leader they said. It'll be fun they said. Fun my ass.
Jay opened his mouth but Heeseung interrupted him. "In 10 words or less".
Jay closed his mouth in defeat and both Jay and Jake turned to look at Sunghoon who looked like he would rather be anywhere but here.
“We got the paints!!”, Jay and Jake shout as soon as they enter the dorm, holding two fairly large cans and a bag filled with brushes and rollers. “I’ve set everything up!”, Sunghoon’s voice cried out from one of the bedrooms and the two boys made a bee line straight for that room.
Sunghoon had shifted the bed and the desk to the other side of the room and had spread a couple of large plastic sheets on the floor to avoid the floor getting messy. A duster was kept on the side which meant that he had cleaned the wall as well for a better and smoother outcome.
“Please tell me you two got the colours we all decided on”, Sunghoon asked preparing himself to be disappointed just in case. “We got a lighter shade of the blue because they were out of the original colour, but don’t worry it will work”, Jake replied as he lifted the can he was talking about.
Sunghoon nodded and stepped back. “Let’s start then.”
After half an hour of struggling just to open the cans, the three boys were already tired out. “The can opener was almost a can’t opener”, Jay giggled at his own joke earning groans from the other two. “Don’t talk stupid again”, Sunghoon commented, grabbing the paint tray and pouring the paint. Jay also did the same with the other can and tray and the two of them started to paint the wall with the light blue shade they had gotten.
“The colour is actually better than I expected”, Jake remarked. “Can you help us please? Instead of sitting back and admiring our hard work?”, Jay asked, sarcasm dripping from his words. “I think you two are handling it pretty well on your own.” Jake replied with a teasing smirk. “Besides, like you both remind me every chance you two get..I’m short so I won’t be able to reach well”.
“But you’re small enough to reach the bottom part of the wall so stop being an idiot and start working or else you’ll regret it”, Sunghoon gave a threatening smile, eyes blinking. Jake huffed and grabbed a roller and stood between the two of them and began to paint.
It was uncharacteristically quite for the three of them. Jay decided it was a great idea to use his phone whilst painting the wall and all because he was not paying attention to where his roller was going, he ended up painting Jake’s hand blue.
Not keen on forgiving and forgetting Jay’s carelessness, Jake took advantage of the opportunity at hand and didn’t hesitate to use the roller on Jay’s face which left the latter shook. He glared at Jake who was laughing. “You look like a smurf”, he giggled forgetting that he still had the paint covered roller in his hand as he brought his hand up to cover his mouth but instead painted it blue.
Jay couldn’t help but laugh hysterically, pointing his finger at Jake who now had blue lips, chin and teeth. The shorter one glared at Jay who was struggling to breathe while holding his stomach and bending with laughter. “Who’s the smurf now”, he spoke out between giggles. “You even match the height”.
This time Jake didn’t only hear Jay’s never ending shrieks every time he looked at Jake, he also heard soft giggles which turned into silent laughter when Jake turned to glare at Sunghoon, who by now was tearing up.
Bursting with the urge to take his sweet revenge, Jake soon shut up Sunghoon by using the roller on his face as well. Sunghoon froze mid-laughter. Slowly, he placed the roller down and grabbed the tray of paint and over turned it on Jake’s head, the blue liquid trickling down his hair and face.
He didn’t hesitate to pick up the can and in doing so, managed to spill some on Jay’s white jeans. “What the f- DUDE DO YOU KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE THIS IS!!?”, Jay shouted, getting back on his feet in mere seconds. “Oh please, you have three more of these in your closet”, Jake commented. He was clearly not regretting ruining Jay’s clothes. “Well then, I’m sure you won’t be upset if i spilled some on you too”, Jay grinned as he quickly grabbed the closest can and aimed it at Jake who managed to duck and avoid the large splash of paint.
However, poor Sunghoon was the one who got the full blast of it. With a war cry worthy of a battle, all hell broke loose as Sunghoon yelled something about not being rich enough to afford multiple clothes.
"Started painting our room and ended up in a paint war...?", he spoke in a questioning manner.
"I can see that", the oldest exhaled. He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Did you three clean up the mess?". The three boys nodded. "Did anything break?" The boys shook their head. "Was an ambulance called?" The boys again, shook their head.
Heeseung nodded and the time on his phone. The analog clock showed that it was almost 3 in the morning. He stood up and three pairs of eyes followed him, dreading of what will happen. Right now, the soft spoken and usually happy leader was nothing short of being unpredictable.
"We all should go sleep", Heeseung drawled. His eyes were on the verge of closing and it seemed he would fall asleep any second. The three boys sighed out of relief but not for long.
"I'll take care of you three in the morning. Get some shut eye while you can", and with that Heeseung made way to his room shared by one of the maknaes leaving the three boys dreading of the coming morning.
