Plenty. Jaya is a planner, he tends to consider a future romance with a lot of people he finds attractive. It's pretty short-lived, usually. Currently, his sights are set on Orville, but that could change at any sign of things going differently from what he'd pictured.

✍️ (AU: turned by his lover)

Jaya had been turning down his lover's offers of eternal life for two years before it finally happened. A necessity, one he did not particularly enjoy, after a witch-blood high goes too far and his love severed an artery, leaving this the only way to save him.

He knew it would happen eventually, but he'd hoped for more years as a witch, and more years to age and make the appearance of the age gap less egregious. While he does not mind being with a man who looks old enough to be his father, he would have liked to have gotten into his 30's before he considers stopping his own aging.

His turning throws a wrench in the life he'd hoped to lead. Instead of his plan to balance an arranged marriage, a child born for the sake of his family legacy, and his time spent with his true lover. His ability to have children has been stripped away and he is now forced to attempt to hide his transformation from his family.

His desire to keep contact with his family would be his downfall. Deep down, he'd know his parents would stop seeing him as their son as soon as he woke up without his connection to his magic, but he wouldn't want to believe it.

At the very least, they'd give him the mercy of a quick death when he came to see them. He would never experience his father's workroom as a patient.

When Jaya started to show an interest in doing a wider range of spells than the potion-oriented work his father was focused on, his mother spent nearly two years modifying and altering every spell and ritual she had in her personal spellbooks to work better with his magic. He still uses a lot of those rituals, even as he has continued to modify them as his magic developed and changed over time.
