On the Topic of Jayah

Today is Valentine's Day, and the day after Jayah's death. Everyone I know responded, some cried, some comforted, some did both. Some drew a heart on their left hand to honor her. A lot of people were drained, and just wanted to go home. I had a different idea.

Today was a day to live. A day to help others and get back up when you fall down. A day to kiss your crush just to laugh at the surprise on their face. A day to live your life, because some people aren't so lucky.

Cherish your life. Your experiences are yours alone, every childhood dream and every fairytale you'll tell to a child. Every thought in your mind is strung together with a thread made only by you. There is no one else like you, and no one else as deserving of your love.

Today, a girl from my school killed herself. She jumped off of her grandmother's balcony and died. I never knew this girl, I never even knew her name before today. But people had made a petition for her to kill herself, and she had been having suicidal thoughts for months. I wish I could have helped, I wish people hadn't decided to be so awful to her that she wanted to die.

There have been times that I've wanted to die, that I felt like no one loved me. But I've always eventually realized that I'm not alone, and someone out there does love me, even if they've never seen my face.

So for everyone who sees this, I love you. For everyone who's alone, tomorrow or any other day, I love you. For anyone who ever wants to die, I LOVE YOU.
