The next Oktave is announced. We’re hosting Los Angeles heavy hitter Truncate back to Smartbar for an old-fashioned summer techno throw down.
For nearly eight years, I’ve been running Oktave as a techno event, primarily as a way to bring the type of music I love to my city, and to give techno fans an opportunity to hear some of the best artists around. I’m really happy to tell you that this mission will now extend beyond the dance floor – this fall will see the debut of Oktave Records.
I’ve been putting out records on other people’s labels for a while now, and I figured it was high time to take control of the process from start to finish. Many years in the making, Oktave Records will focus on both my own productions, as well as the type of artists you have come to associate with the event brand. Oktave Records will allow me to support and promote artists I believe in with a more significant, longer-lasting product than simple events that come and go in one night.
Lastly, Oktave Records will also include a monthly podcast, giving me even further latitude in bringing new and exciting sounds to your ears. The podcast, in reality, will be the most flexible of all the Oktave offerings.
The label will launch with the first podcast next week, which you’ll hear more about shortly. The first release will be one of my own – I am working with Triple Vision distribution and Tim Xavier at Man Made Mastering to get this slab of wax into your hands by early November. All Oktave Records releases will be on vinyl and digital.
Oktave’s tenth year rolls on with Luke Slater, UK techno uber-producer. Planetary Assault Systems, LB Dub Corp etc. This will be a special show. Friday, April 19th at Smartbar in Chicago.
Oktave kicks off 2019 with the return of Regis. This is his first time playing in Chicago since his three-show residency for us in 2015.
The last Oktave of 2018 is upon us. UK legend Ben Sims will join me at Smartbar on Friday, December 14th for a night classic techno.
My last record of 2018 is now available on Coyu’s Suara label out of Barcelona. I’m very proud to have remixes on this release from techno legends James Ruskin and Cassegrain. Digital is available everywhere, and vinyl is released on November 26th. I hope you enjoy it...!
Oktave turns nine this year, and we’re celebrating with an excellent lineup at Smartbar on Saturday, October 6th. Two artists for whom I have huge respect will be gracing the booth - Shifted and Tin Man. Don’t miss this one.
