“Because Hollywouldn’t.”
That’s the mantra behind the American Black Film Festival, according to one of its founders, Jeff Friday.
The ABFF, which is held in Miami, is transforming and diversifying Hollywood through its screenwriting contests and workshops, among other opportunities.
Seven years ago, Ryan Coogler, director of the smash-hit Black Panther, won a contest at this same festival. “That first vote of confidence—that really meant a lot,” Coogler told NBC News’ Morgan Radford.
