DOUSE RELEASES LIVE VIDEO, ANNOUNCES VINYL RELEASE SHOW

Douse has released a live video for “The Importance of Each Other,” off their debut album The Light in You Has Left.

Filmed in collaboration with IMVERYAPE in Calgary, the video features the band illuminated only by LED displays that change colour, mirroring the conflicted feelings within the song. While each chord and drum fill cuts a little deeper than on the original, Alea Clark’s gentle vocals pull it back to the spatial, cinematic sound they are known for (“We won't love one another / we're not capable of it”). It’s a beautifully raw take on a personal favourite from the LP.

The Light in You Has Left was just recently released on vinyl, and Douse will be celebrating with a show at Stylus Records (Unit 99 - 291 East 2nd Ave) on Friday, June 9th. Garage rockers The Jins and post-punk duo Casual Luxury will open the evening. Cover is $10 or pay-what-you-can, with music starting at 10 PM.

You can also catch them at the annual Khatsahlano Street Party on July 8th.

GERMAN BOYFRIEND RELEASES DEBUT SINGLE

Jeremiah Ackermann has been writing music and refining his sound for half a decade—and though his most recent contributions come under multi-person configurations (Alea Rae, Violet), his first works were solo. The Vancouver-based artist is now revisiting these roots with german boyfriend and his debut release under the moniker, “we can’t work it out, not supposed to be with each other.”

Written while Ackermann was still in high school, “we can’t work it out” is a relationship tethered to heartbreak, paths pulling in opposite directions towards a space to grow. Gentle piano and Ackermann’s vocals swell through the 7 minute-long tune, with stirring lyricism (“This burden weighs more than I am made of through the wailing of the hills”) a definitive stand-out. Stream the new track below.

Alea Rae has also hit the studio to record their debut full-length album, which we can’t wait to hear!

ALEA RAE ANNOUNCE BC TOUR

The indie folk band released their split single, Flies & Lancaster, in July, and are currently working on new material. Side note, but they were also recently crowned the winners of our 2014 "Local Band / Musician of the Year!" Virtual high-fives all around.
