Unexpected Ways to Reunite
Felicia was in the kitchen of her family’s home when she got the call. Visiting her parents and younger siblings for a bit before she goes back to her apartment. Baking a huge amount of cookies, as she usually did for them. She had to lightly smack her younger brother’s hand away from the latest batch she had made as they weren’t done cooling yet.
“Patience Jeremy! I know you’re excited but-” she paused as her phone rang. “Hallo? Oh! Audwin, how good to hear from you! How’s...wait...what? Give me a moment,” she said and placed the phone to her chest as she looked at her little brother. “Hey J? Why don’t you go get Bri. I’m need to head out and she can take over making the cookies. Don’t you dare try to eat so much to make yourself sick again or I won’t make you any to take to school with you next week.”
“Yes, big sister,“ he said with a slight pout and left the kitchen. She waited until he was gone to bring the phone back to her ear.
“Sorry about that Audwin. So...tell me again...what about Izzy?“ she said.
It was perhaps a half hour later when she arrived at the hospital that her dear fried had been taken to. Her mind was going through several questions, but she couldn’t think of the possible answers. It did not help that she was torn between being very concerned and wanting to scold him about being so...reckless. Even more so since chemistry was her main scientific passion. He should know better!
When she reached the room he was being kept in, her heart began to ache. He looked so disheveled and out of sorts. She wasn’t even sure if he was truly conscious at the moment. Still Felicia wet over to the bed and pulled up a chair so she could sit next to him. Her concern and her feelings for him won out over urge to scold.
However, she still couldn’t wrap her mind around why such a smart man had done something in an unwise manner. Sure they may had done some questionable moves in pursuit of knowledge before but...even then it never really got like...this.
“Izzy?“ she called softly and reached out to move some of his hair. “It’s me, Felicia. What...what went wrong?“ she asked as she looked at him a bit sadly. What was he working on? What breakthrough was he trying to make? Why was he here? He shouldn’t be here. Not him, not Izzy, not one of the smartest men she knew. Another old classmate of theirs, that was always causing some explosion or another with chemicals compounds, yes.
But not Izzy...
Not her, kind, brilliant Izzy.
