A/N- AHHH okay, I wanted this chapter to be more calm after all the tension from Chapter 8 and show that Jaafar isn't angry he just needed some time to adjust.
And now...
ONE CHAPTER LEFT. ๐ญโค๏ธ
I hope you guys enjoyed Chapter 9, and I'll see you in the final chapter!!
Warnings: romantic moments, relationship discussions, and mild friendship tension.
The next morning felt different.
Not bad.
Just...
Different.
You stared at your phone, scrolling through your messages from the night before.
Jermajesty: goodnight, girlfriend.
You smiled before locking your phone.
Then you remembered.
Jaafar knew.
You groaned and buried your face in your pillow.
"Why is this so awkward?"
Your phone buzzed.
You looked at the screen.
Jermajesty: good morning :)
You smiled.
You: good morning
A second later...
Jermajesty: how are you feeling?
You: honestly?
Jermajesty: honestly.
You: embarrassed.
Jermajesty: why?
You: because your brother knows.
Jermajesty: technically he already knew yesterday.
You: you know what i mean ๐ญ
Jermajesty: i do.
You waited.
Then another message appeared.
Jermajesty: want me to come over?
You smiled.
You: won't that make it worse?
Jermajesty: probably.
You laughed.
You: then no.
Jermajesty: okay.
A pause.
Jermajesty: i'll see you later though.
You: is that a question?
Jermajesty: no.
You rolled your eyes.
You: you're impossible.
Jermajesty: and yet...
You: don't.
Jermajesty: you like me.
You smiled.
You: unfortunately.
Jermajesty: i'll take it.
You put your phone down.
For a few minutes, everything felt normal.
Until another notification appeared.
This time...
It was Jaafar.
Jaafar: you awake?
You stared at the message.
You: yeah
Jaafar: can you come over later?
Your stomach tightened.
You: sure. why?
Jaafar: just wanna talk.
You stared at those three words.
Just wanna talk.
That never sounded good.
You: okay
Jaafar: don't worry. i'm not mad.
You sighed in relief.
You: okay ๐ญ
Jaafar: see you later.
You put your phone down.
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
A few hours later, you stood outside the Jackson house.
You took a deep breath before knocking.
The door opened almost immediately.
Jaafar stood there.
"Hey."
"Hey."
He stepped aside.
"Come in."
You walked inside.
Everything looked exactly the same.
Which somehow made everything feel even stranger.
You followed him into the living room.
He sat down.
You sat across from him.
For a few seconds...
Neither of you spoke.
Finally, Jaafar sighed.
"So..."
"So?"
He smiled slightly.
"I don't really know how to start this."
You laughed nervously.
"Me neither."
He nodded.
"I've been thinking about yesterday."
"Me too."
"I meant what I said."
You looked at him.
"I'm not mad."
"I know."
"But..."
He paused.
"I don't want you thinking you have to hide things from me."
You looked down.
"I know."
"I mean it."
He leaned back.
"You're my best friend. If something's happening in your life, I want you to be able to tell me."
You nodded.
"I was scared."
"I know."
"I didn't want things to change."
He smiled.
"Things don't have to change."
You looked up.
"Really?"
"Really."
He shrugged.
"You're still my best friend."
Your smile softened.
"You're still mine too."
"Good."
A quiet moment passed.
Then Jaafar looked at you suspiciously.
"One thing, though."
"What?"
He pointed at you.
"If you're dating my brother..."
You raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah?"
"I don't want to hear about every single romantic detail."
You burst out laughing.
"Trust me, you won't."
"Good."
He looked relieved.
"I really don't need to know."
You laughed again.
"Fair."
He smiled.
Then the front door opened.
You both looked toward the hallway.
Jermajesty walked in.
He stopped when he saw you.
His face immediately lit up.
"Hey."
"Hey."
Jaafar looked between the two of you.
Then shook his head.
"Okay."
Jermajesty frowned.
"What?"
"Nothing."
Jaafar stood up.
"I'm going to the kitchen."
He pointed at both of you.
"Behave."
Jermajesty laughed.
"We will."
Jaafar walked away.
The second he disappeared...
Jermajesty looked at you.
"So..."
"So?"
"That went well."
You smiled.
"Yeah."
He sat beside you.
"Are you okay?"
You nodded.
"Yeah."
He smiled.
"Good."
You looked toward the kitchen.
"Do you think he's actually okay with this?"
Jermajesty thought for a moment.
"I think he's trying."
You nodded.
"Me too."
Jermajesty smiled.
"That's all we can ask for."
You looked at him.
"I like this."
"This?"
"Being able to sit here without pretending."
His smile softened.
"Me too."
For a moment, neither of you said anything.
Then Jaafar yelled from the kitchen.
"I CAN STILL HEAR YOU!"
You and Jermajesty burst out laughing.
"Sorry!" you called.
"You're not sorry!"
Jermajesty laughed.
"He's never going to let us live this down."
You smiled.
"Probably not."
And somehow...
The awkwardness didn't feel so bad anymore.
Maybe things really were going to be okay.
Maybe this could actually work.
You looked at Jermajesty.
He smiled back.
And for the first time...
You didn't feel like you had to hide it.
The rest of the afternoon went surprisingly well.
At first, you were convinced every second was going to feel awkward.
But after a while...
It didn't.
Jaafar put on another movie, and the three of you settled onto the couch.
You sat on one end.
Jermajesty sat on the other.
Jaafar sat in the middle.
Exactly like before.
Except now...
Everyone knew.
About twenty minutes into the movie, you reached for the popcorn.
So did Jermajesty.
Your hands bumped.
You both looked at each other.
He smiled.
You smiled back.
Jaafar sighed loudly.
You looked over.
"What?"
"I saw that."
You blinked.
"Saw what?"
"Nothing."
Jermajesty started laughing.
"Bro, what?"
Jaafar shook his head.
"Nothing. I'm just getting used to this."
You laughed.
"Used to what?"
"You two."
He gestured between you.
"It's weird."
"Sorry," you said.
"I'm not."
Jaafar grabbed some popcorn.
"I'll survive."
Jermajesty leaned toward you.
"See? He's obsessed with us."
Jaafar immediately threw a piece of popcorn at him.
"Shut up."
You burst out laughing.
For the first time since Jaafar had found out...
Everything felt normal again.
Maybe even better than normal.
You didn't have to worry about hiding every glance.
You didn't have to pretend you didn't care about Jermajesty.
You could just...
Be yourself.
A little while later, Jaafar got up to grab something from the kitchen.
The second he disappeared, Jermajesty whispered,
"Hey."
You looked at him.
"Yeah?"
He smiled.
"I'm glad."
"About what?"
"That he knows."
You smiled.
"Me too."
He glanced toward the kitchen.
"And I'm glad he's not trying to kill me."
You laughed.
"Give him time."
Jermajesty looked horrified.
"Don't say that."
You laughed harder.
A few seconds later, Jaafar walked back into the room.
"What are you two laughing about?"
"Nothing."
He narrowed his eyes.
"That sounded suspicious."
You smiled.
"You're suspicious."
"Okay."
He sat back down.
"I'll remember that."
Later that evening, you stood outside the house waiting for your ride.
Jermajesty walked out with you.
The porch light was glowing above you.
"You okay?" he asked.
You nodded.
"Yeah."
"You sure?"
"Yeah."
You smiled.
"I actually think today went pretty well."
He nodded.
"Me too."
You looked back at the house.
"He's still disappointed."
"Yeah."
You sighed.
"I feel bad."
Jermajesty looked at you.
"You don't have to."
"I do."
"You didn't do anything wrong."
"I kept it from him."
"Because you were scared."
You looked at him.
"Still."
He smiled softly.
"You told him eventually."
You nodded.
"Yeah."
He paused.
"And now we don't have to hide."
You smiled.
"That's true."
A comfortable silence settled between you.
Then he looked at you.
"So..."
"So?"
"Can I ask you something?"
You looked at him.
"Sure."
He smiled.
"Are you happy?"
The question caught you off guard.
You thought about it for a moment.
Then you smiled.
"Yeah."
He nodded.
"Good."
"Are you?"
He looked at you.
"Yeah."
His smile grew.
"Really happy."
You laughed softly.
"Good."
Your ride was getting closer.
You looked down the street.
"I should go."
"Yeah."
Neither of you moved.
You both laughed.
"You always do this," you said.
"Do what?"
"Make saying goodbye take forever."
He smiled.
"Maybe I don't like saying goodbye."
You shook your head.
"You're cheesy."
"I know."
You smiled.
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
You started walking away.
Then your phone buzzed.
You looked down.
Jermajesty: made it home?
You turned around.
He was still standing on the porch.
You laughed.
You: i haven't even left yet.
Jermajesty: just checking.
You: you're ridiculous.
Jermajesty: and you're smiling again.
You looked up at him.
He was smiling too.
You shook your head.
Then you finally walked away.
For the first time...
You weren't worried about hiding anymore.
You weren't worried about what Jaafar thought.
And you weren't worried about whether Jermajesty felt the same way.
Summary- You and Jermajesty are finally starting to settle into your new relationship, spending the day together and enjoying some time alone. But when Jaafar unexpectedly finds out that you're dating his brother, things become a little awkward. He isn't angry, but he's hurt and disappointed that you both kept it from him.

A/N- AHHHH ๐ญ They finally got caught!! I honestly loved writing this chapter because we got to see more of you and Jermajesty actually being together, but of course... Jaafar had to find out eventually. ๐ญ Don't worry though, we're getting closer to the end! There are only two chapters left, so things are definitely starting to come together.
Also sorry for the long wait and Im going to try to put up the last couple of chapters tonight!
I hope you enjoyed Chapter 8!! โก
Warnings: kissing, and a tense conversation about keeping a relationship secret.
Jermajesty: i could come pick you up.
You: where are we going?
Jermajesty: somewhere.
You: that's not an answer ๐ญ
Jermajesty: it's a surprise.
You: should i be concerned?
Jermajesty: probably.
You laughed.
You: you're horrible at planning surprises.
Jermajesty: just trust me.
You stared at the message for a moment.
Then smiled.
You: okay.
Jermajesty: okay?
You: okay.
Jermajesty: i'll be there in twenty.
You: twenty?!
Jermajesty: yes.
You: i haven't even gotten ready.
Jermajesty: you have twenty minutes.
You: that's not enough time.
Jermajesty: you're gonna look great anyway.
You paused.
You: ...
Jermajesty: what?
You: nothing.
Jermajesty: you're blushing.
You: I'M NOT.
Jermajesty: sure.
You tossed your phone onto the bed.
"He's so annoying."
But you were smiling.
You quickly got ready, grabbing your bag and checking your phone every few minutes.
Exactly twenty minutes later...
A car pulled up outside.
You looked through the window.
Jermajesty.
Of course.
Your phone buzzed.
Jermajesty: outside :)
You: coming.
When you stepped outside, he rolled down the window.
"Hey."
"Hey."
He smiled.
"You ready?"
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see."
You narrowed your eyes.
"I don't trust you."
He laughed.
"You said you trusted me."
"I changed my mind."
"Too late."
You got into the passenger seat.
As he pulled away from the house, you glanced over at him.
He seemed unusually happy.
Not that he wasn't usually happy around you...
But this was different.
"What?"
He glanced at you.
"What?"
"You're smiling."
"So?"
"You look suspicious."
He laughed.
"I'm not suspicious."
"You're definitely suspicious."
He shook his head.
"Just wait."
A few minutes passed.
You watched the familiar streets disappear behind you.
Then you realized where you were going.
"Wait..."
He smiled.
"You figured it out?"
"You brought me here?"
He pulled into the parking lot.
You looked out the window.
It was a small park you'd mentioned once.
Only once.
Weeks ago.
You'd told him it was one of your favorite places because it was usually quiet.
You looked back at him.
"You remembered?"
He shrugged.
"Of course I remembered."
Your smile softened.
"I can't believe you."
"Good can't believe me or bad can't believe me?"
"Good."
He smiled.
"Then we're good."
The two of you got out of the car.
The park was almost completely empty.
A soft breeze moved through the trees, and the afternoon sun filtered through the leaves.
You walked beside him along the path.
For a while, neither of you said anything.
You didn't need to.
Eventually, you reached a bench overlooking the small pond.
You sat down.
Jermajesty sat beside you.
"Okay," you said. "What's the actual reason we're here?"
He looked at you.
"I wanted somewhere we could just talk."
"About what?"
He hesitated.
"You."
You raised an eyebrow.
"Me?"
"Yeah."
You smiled.
"That's a lot of pressure."
He laughed.
"Not like that."
"Then what?"
He looked out at the pond.
"I just wanted to know what you're thinking."
You went quiet.
"About us?"
He nodded.
"Yeah."
You took a breath.
"I don't know."
"That's okay."
"I mean..." You looked down at your hands. "I know I like you."
He smiled.
"I like you too."
"But everything feels so new."
"I know."
"And I'm scared of messing it up."
His expression softened.
"You won't."
"You don't know that."
"Maybe not."
He paused.
"But I know I'm not going anywhere just because things get complicated."
You looked at him.
There was something about the way he said it.
No joke.
No teasing.
Just honesty.
You smiled.
"You're really serious about this, aren't you?"
He nodded.
"I am."
A quiet moment passed.
Then he nudged your shoulder gently.
"But we don't have to figure everything out today."
You smiled.
"Good."
"Good?"
"Yeah."
You laughed.
"Because I was starting to think you brought me to a park for a relationship meeting."
He laughed.
"A relationship meeting?"
"Yes."
He held up his hands.
"Okay, okay. No relationship meetings."
"Thank you."
"But..."
You looked at him.
"I do have one more question."
"What?"
He smiled.
"Can I keep making you smile like this?"
You stared at him.
Then shook your head.
"That was terrible."
"But did it work?"
You tried not to smile.
"...Maybe."
He grinned.
"I'll take it."
You leaned back against the bench.
For the first time all day, you felt completely relaxed.
No worrying about Jaafar.
No worrying about keeping secrets.
No wondering what would happen next.
Just you.
And him.
And a quiet afternoon.
Until your phone buzzed.
You pulled it out.
A message from Jaafar.
Jaafar: where are you?
Your stomach dropped.
You looked at Jermajesty.
He immediately noticed your expression.
"What?"
You turned your phone toward him.
He read the message.
"Oh."
"Yeah."
He thought for a second.
"Just tell him the truth."
You raised an eyebrow.
"All of it?"
He laughed.
"Maybe not all of it."
You smiled.
You typed back.
You: just out for a bit.
The response came quickly.
Jaafar: with who?
You looked at Jermajesty.
He looked back at you.
Neither of you said anything.
You typed:
You: a friend.
Jermajesty covered his mouth, trying not to laugh.
You glared at him.
"What?"
"You called me a friend."
"You are my friend."
He smiled.
"Yeah."
He leaned back.
"I just happen to be your favorite."
You rolled your eyes.
"Don't push it."
He laughed.
Your phone buzzed again.
Jaafar: okay. be home before dinner.
You: will do.
You put your phone away.
"See?"
Jermajesty said.
"Everything's fine."
You nodded.
"Yeah."
He smiled.
"Good."
Then he stood up.
"C'mon."
You looked up at him.
"Where now?"
He held out his hand.
"Walk with me."
You smiled and took it.
The two of you started down the path.
For a while, everything felt perfect.
You talked about random things.
You laughed.
He made fun of your music taste.
You made fun of his.
It was easy.
Normal.
Until Jermajesty suddenly stopped walking.
"What?"
He looked ahead.
You followed his gaze.
Your stomach dropped.
Standing near the entrance of the park...
Was Jaafar.
He wasn't angry.
He wasn't yelling.
He was just...
Looking at the two of you.
More specifically...
At your hands.
You immediately let go of Jermajesty's hand.
"Jaafar..."
He looked at you.
Then at Jermajesty.
Then back at you.
"So..."
Neither of you said anything.
Jaafar nodded slowly.
"Okay."
"Jaafar, I can explain."
"I know."
His voice was calm.
Almost too calm.
Jermajesty took a small step forward.
Jaafar held up a hand.
"Just... give me a second."
Jermajesty stopped.
Jaafar looked down for a moment before sighing.
"How long?"
You swallowed.
"How long what?"
He gave you a look.
"You know what I'm asking."
You looked at Jermajesty.
Then back at Jaafar.
"A little while."
"A little while?"
You nodded.
"Yeah."
He nodded slowly.
"Okay."
You expected him to get angry.
Instead, he just looked disappointed.
And somehow...
That felt worse.
"You could've told me."
You looked down.
"I wanted to."
"Then why didn't you?"
You didn't have an answer.
"I was scared."
"Of me?"
"No."
You shook your head quickly.
"Not of you. I just didn't know how you'd react."
He looked at Jermajesty.
"And you?"
Jermajesty sighed.
"I didn't know either."
Jaafar gave a small laugh.
"Right."
He wasn't laughing because anything was funny.
He just seemed frustrated.
"You two have been sneaking around behind my back?"
You immediately spoke.
"Not really."
Jaafar raised an eyebrow.
"Really?"
You hesitated.
"...Okay. Maybe a little."
Jermajesty looked at you.
"That's fair."
Jaafar shook his head.
"I'm not mad that you're together."
You looked up.
"You're not?"
"No."
He paused.
"I'm just disappointed."
Your heart sank.
"Why?"
"Because you're my best friend."
He looked at you.
"And you're my brother."
Then he looked at Jermajesty.
"I would've rather heard it from you guys than figured it out myself."
You nodded.
"You're right."
Jaafar sighed.
"I just don't want this to become weird."
"It won't," you said.
He looked at you.
"You don't know that."
"I know."
You paused.
"But I'll try."
That seemed to soften him a little.
Jermajesty stepped forward.
"I should've told you."
Jaafar looked at him.
"Yeah."
"I'm sorry."
Jaafar nodded.
"I appreciate that."
A quiet moment passed.
Then Jaafar looked between the two of you.
"So..."
You waited.
"You're actually dating?"
You and Jermajesty exchanged a glance.
Then you smiled.
"Yeah."
Jaafar shook his head.
"Wow."
"What?"
"I genuinely didn't notice."
Jermajesty laughed.
"Seriously?"
"Don't make me regret not being mad."
You laughed quietly.
"Sorry."
Jaafar shook his head again.
"I'm still processing this."
He started walking toward the parking lot.
"You guys coming?"
You looked at Jermajesty.
He shrugged.
"I think that's a yes."
You followed them.
For the first few minutes, nobody said anything.
Then Jaafar spoke.
"One thing."
You looked over.
"What?"
"If you two are going to date..."
He pointed between you.
"Don't make everything weird."
Jermajesty nodded.
"Deal."
"And don't start acting completely different around me."
"Deal."
Jaafar looked at you.
"And seriously..."
He paused.
"You could've told me."
You gave him a small smile.
"I know."
He sighed.
"I'm not mad."
"I know."
"I'm just disappointed you didn't trust me enough to tell me."
That one hurt.
"I do trust you."
He looked at you.
"I was just scared of losing you as my friend."
Jaafar's expression softened.
"You weren't going to lose me."
You smiled.
"Okay."
He nodded.
"Okay."
Then he looked at Jermajesty.
"But if you hurt her..."
Jermajesty immediately raised his hands.
"I know."
Jaafar narrowed his eyes.
"No, you don't."
Jermajesty laughed nervously.
"Okay. I definitely know now."
You laughed.
Jaafar finally smiled.
"Good."
The three of you continued toward the car.
Things weren't completely normal yet.
But they weren't ruined either.
And somehow...
That was enough.
That night, you sat on your bed staring at your phone.
You had expected Jaafar to be angry.
Instead, he had been hurt.
And somehow...
That made you feel worse.
Your phone buzzed.
Jermajesty: you okay?
You smiled.
You: yeah.
You: just thinking about today.
Jermajesty: same.
You: are you mad at jaafar?
Jermajesty: no.
Jermajesty: he has every right to be disappointed.
You stared at the message.
You: i just don't want things to change.
Jermajesty: they won't.
You: promise?
A few seconds passed.
Jermajesty: promise.
Then another message appeared.
Jermajesty: also...
You: what?
Jermajesty: i think it's kinda nice that he knows now.
What songs do you think the boys would do "it" to?
mmmmm genuinely i see Maj with anything the weeknd, maybe I Was Never There or Party Monster
i think Randy gives me some Chase Atlantic? (the song Slow Down and Oh Mami ๐anyone w me?)
and for Jaafar i was thinking Do I Wanna Know? by Artic Monkeys BUT the Hozier cover๐ค๐ผ and (this is self indulgent) mustang baby by Nessa Barrett :p
