Pennygiles - Red Diamonds EP (RRDEP002)
Releasing some great tunes over the last couple years, Pennygiles is still not a common name on the scene...though I can guarantee that will change very soon. Forthcoming on Rubik Records is Penny's new EP entitled Red Diamonds. It's a three track EP that shows off his ability to create an array of sounds ranging from dark and deep to chill-out and liquid. Every song carries itself in a completely different way whilst still containing Pennygiles's signature sound.
The EP kicks off with the title track Red Diamonds featuring Jett with the vocals. It's a powerful, deep and dark roller that has a sense of weight and strength to it- especially with the low end. Jett's light vocals add a nice contrast with deep vibes this song creates. Altogether the track a great dance floor roller for when you are deep in the mix. The second tune, Caught in Your Eyes with Jess Brinham, is quite a bit different from the first. The emphasis is on the drums despite Jess's vocals that are there to help uplift the smooth vibe of the tune. The crispness and clarity he gets out of his percussion is unreal. This demonstrates Pennygiles 's production skills perfectly and shows that he is a force to be reckoned with.
The last tune out of the 3 is "Ebony Queen" this is just a gorgeous liquid tune from beginning to end. It has it all; the brilliant beat, great selection of melodic and vocal samples, and a warm baseline to tie it all together. Pennygile's sampling of The Cinematic Orchestra's All Things To All Men is a true testament to his sampling abilities. This tune would be perfetct to just chill out to though it still holds the strength of being a great selection for any dance floor as well.
Altogether the EP is definitely one to het your hands on and only shows off Pennygiles's increasing production strength. We are looking forward to its release on Rubik and for any other upcoming releases from this talented producer in the near future.
