This Week at JesseRowes: C'est What?

If you heard a loud sigh of relief echoing through the city yesterday, it was probably me. I finally emerged from the studio after a month of 12 hour days, eyes squinting, trying to adjust to the light and integrate myself back into society. I even went to dinner and a movie!

I know its been a while since my last post. I haven't been able to get out from under my machines longs enough to write. But here I am, back in the light of day and excited to share with you what I've been working on!

I am very happy to announce that first samples are complete! what does that mean? Well, once I complete my pattern drafting, I sew a mock-up of the garment in an inexpensive fabric called muslin. Think of it as a rough draft. I use this first sample to bring my sketch to life and see how it looks and fits on a real person. Usually there are a few minor adjustments to be made at this point or, I hate it entirely and start from scratch.

I put these first samples under some serious scrutiny because I want perfect lines and fit. If it's not perfect I start over.

25 sketches, drafts and muslins later I am now ready to edit the line. What does that mean? Editing the line is choosing the best of the best from the designs and whittling 25 down to 12. Sometimes the choice is easy, for example, if the design looks too similar to something I've seen in another store, it gets the axe. If its missing that extra special touch, it gets chopped, even if I absolutely love it, but it isn't cohesive with the rest of the line, you guessed it, bye bye!

This step was painstaking and heart breaking, so much so that I couldn't choose the final piece, the number 12.

So I need your help! At the end of this week I'll be posting the sketches of the final four designs on Facebook and I'll need you all to vote on the one you would like to see in JesseRowes Spring/Summer 2014 collection!

In the meantime, its back to the studio for me. There is still lots to do before March!
