"When Jim Molinari was hired five years ago to resurrect the Western Illinois men’s basketball program, he didn’t look for a quick fix.
“My intention from the start was to build a program, not a team, and I feel like we’re accomplishing that," Molinari said Monday at Western Illinois’ annual Quad-Cities Golf Outing.
The Leathernecks won their first Summit League regular-season championship while winning 22 games last season, the most victories in the program’s NCAA Division-I history.
An NCAA tourney berth remains an elusive goal for Western Illinois, but Molinari believes his program is better positioned to take that next step now than it ever has been."
