A menos que você me diga pra ir.

It's too crowded in here.
That's all you've been thinking for the past two and a half hours of the party your friends claimed they threw for your birthday. You're sat in a corner of your ‘best friend’ Jina's parents’ home as the dozens of bodies of people you hardly know (if at all) move and laugh around you, an untouched cup full of liquid in your left hand while your right pulls at loose strings on your jeans.
Music blares from another room, not your taste at all, and you feel a little nauseous from the bass vibrating in your skull. You look down at your drink and consider just chugging it all at once and finding a more secluded spot to sulk in, but decide you shouldn't do that to yourself this time. Pouring it in the sink and buying a ride home sounds marginally better.
Careful not to spill it everywhere, you hoist yourself off the low sofa, orient yourself in the right direction, and immediately land eyes on your friend Jisung standing alone just inside the kitchen.
Walks you to your classes every day Jisung. Lent you his jacket just before Valentines day this year and made you spiral over it Jisung.
Your mouth goes dry.
You swing your head around to make sure nobody's seeing your wide-eyed staring and drag yourself out of your frozen state, walking into the kitchen and tearing your eyes off him before he can catch you as you pass.
"Oh-! Hey, I haven't really seen you since I got here," says Jisung, his eyes moving over your face as he tucks his phone into his jeans pocket. "I was wondering where you were."
"Yeah?" You clear your throat and turn away to face the cupboards and fridge instead. "I came for a drink," you say with a shrug.
"You didn't finish that one," Jisung pointed out.
You glance at the full cup in your hand. "…yeah. Uh, I realized I don't really feel like… drinking." You place it on the countertop and open the fridge to grab a plastic bottle of water. "Better," you say, lifting it up as you shut the door. You lean your back against the closed fridge and open the bottle, hard plastic ridges on the cap scraping into your palm. You let your eyes wander again — the dark hair that's usually falling in his eyes has been shoved out of the way, framing his brow and curling in at the ends. He's swapped his usual plain white tees for an upsized button-up with the sleeves pushed up to show off lean forearms. You mentally cuss out the part of you that asks if he wanted to look nice for you.
"You're not enjoying your party?" Jisung asks suddenly, his gaze flicking from you, out the archway, and back.
You pour a big sip of water into your mouth and swallow slowly before responding. "I mean—" You let out a short sigh and fiddle the cap between your fingers. "It's hardly mine," you joke, watching Jisung's eyebrows crease.
"Do you…" He trails off, running his fingers through his hair as he glances to the floor. "Do you wanna go outside, or something?" He clarifies quickly, "for fresh air."
✦ . . ˚ .
The loudness of the party is slightly muffled behind the balcony doors, giving you at least some relief as you grip the cool metal of the railing and look over the streets, pulling deep breaths into your lungs. You can see Jisung pushing his weight about restlessly next to you. "Why were you alone in there?"
Jisung hums and stills his movements. "I don't have anyone else I want to talk to here," he says with a shrug. "I already hung out for a while earlier."
He leans his elbow in the rail. "Why were you? I thought this was for your birthday," he asks.
"I think they just wanted an excuse," you admit. "I haven't even seen Jina in, like, forever. But my birthday's tomorrow, anyway, so it's not like…" you wave your hand in the air vaguely, keeping your eyes on the lights sprawling below. "They gave me my gifts already, too, so clearly it isn't just not caring."
"Hm." Jisung nods. He's already looking at you when you look up, his soft lashes brush his cheeks when he blinks, making your breath stop for a moment. "Ah!" He exclaims when it registers to him, clumsily patting himself down, then his fingers plunge beneath the folded collar of his shirt, pulling at a silver chain while you silently watch him stumble. He manages to unclasp his necklace after the longest few seconds of his life, holding it out by the ends.
Meeting your confused stare, he rushes to speak, "I didn't— I was worried it would get damaged in my pockets, but—" he shakes his head and takes a deep breath. "I wanted to have it with me for when I saw you."
You blink and try to focus on the swinging charm, but as soon as it steadies, he's moving again, stepping closer with it. "Can I…?"
You nod, straightening up as Jisung stands behind you. You find a point in the distance to focus on and hold your breath when you feel him gently, timidly move your hair before pulling the necklace into position to fasten it behind your neck. It feels like an eternity, his fingers brushing your skin and his low voice mumbling to himself when he fumbles with the clasp again, but it eventually ends, and you can breathe again. He lingers behind you for a moment when he's finished. "…there," he says, and steps back into place next to you instead.
You take the charm between your thumb and index finger, looking down at it, and you can hear Jisung tapping on the railing — nervously? — as you finally get a look at it.
It's simple; a silver five-point star with some sort of tiny transparent gem in the center, only the width of your finger tip. Something you imagine he'd found near checkout while shopping and decided he may as well grab it. But even so you feel like you want to never take it off for some reason.
Jisung clears his throat, bringing you out of your trance to see him opening his mouth to speak, which you swiftly put an end to by throwing your arms around him in an embrace. This catches him off guard, but he eases into it with a sigh, hands comfortable on your back and your hair.
"I like it." You speak just loudly enough for him to hear, "a lot."
He doesn't say anything right away, but you can feel his breathing steady against you, and when you look up — arms still anchored around his neck — he meets your eyes briefly before his gaze flits downward slightly. You almost lean closer, but his voice cuts the moment short; "Should we—" he stammers "Should we go in- inside? Someone might be looking for you, or—" His eyes aren't on you anymore, instead purposely glued to the balcony doors, and you swallow your disappointment before shaking your head.
"Nobody's gonna be looking for me," you say, pulling away from the hug as all the heat in your body seems to rush to your cheeks.
Jisung's fist briefly clenches at his side and he sighs again, looking back to you. "Do you have a ride home?"
You shake your head, grabbing your abandoned water bottle off the floor. "Uh, an Uber, I guess."
"I'll get one," he offers, watching you closely.
"Sung, you don't have to—"
"It's your birthday," he insists.
"Not for at least over an hour," you correct him.
He rolls his eyes, a hint of a smile appearing as he grabs his phone.
✦ . . ˚ .
The ride is quiet, but you're comforted enough by his presence to ignore the strange feeling within you, fiddle with your necklace, and just watch the streetlights go by out the window.
When the car turns in to your building's parking lot, Jisung finally speaks; "Is your roommate home?"
"No," you reply. Your roommate left a week ago and won't be back for another, leaving you to your own silence most of the time. But it's not like you're close. "Why?"
Jisung hesitates a second, "I want to keep you company," he says, and you agree quicker than you can think to consider the implications.
When the two of you make it inside, your anxiety quickly tries to push itself outward; heart racing and hands fumbling as you put your things down and watch Jisung take in your living area, blood threatening to colour your face as you steal a glance at his lips when he compliments your undeserving decor.
After he has a seat on your sofa, you linger nearby silently rather than sit next to him, your hand absentmindedly finding it's way to the charm over your chest again. "…do you want some… something?" you ask, turning away to walk the few steps to the kitchen, opening your fridge and scanning the half empty shelves. You rub the side of your face and open the freezer instead to take out the small tub of ice cream you left in the back — you'd planned to have it on your own tomorrow, but...
Placing it on the counter, you keep your head down as Jisung joins you in the kitchen, feeling him watch you as you pull two spoons from the drawer. "Is it because of your name?"
"What?" Jisung asks, tilting his head in confusion as he takes the spoon you hold out for him. "My name?"
"Yeah." You pull the cardboard lid off and push your spoon into the ice cream, slowly shovelling through without actually taking any. "Y'know," you continue, "Sung."
Jisung doesn't say anything, nudging your spoon out of the way with his to take a bite.
You bite your cheek and take a small spoonful as well before placing the utensil down on the counter. "I thought about it in the car," you say, "Like… seong. Means like, star, or something." You resist the urge to check his reaction right away and instead keep close watch of your countertop. "Right?"
"I don't know what you mean." Jisung pushes his hair back and pushes the ice cream closer to you. "Eat more," he says, turning his head just as you look up.
✦ . . ˚ .
"Are you doing anything tomorrow?" Jisung asks while you put the lid back on over the remaining ice cream, though he clearly knows the answer already. You shake your head and answer anyway;
"That was kinda it for the birthday stuff."
He leans back against the counter and crosses his arms. "Cake?"
"No."
Jisung's expression turns thoughtful, taking his phone from his pocket and tapping through a bit. You put the container back in the freezer and put the spoons in the sink while you wait out whatever he's up to. "Do you have a lighter?" he asks suddenly as he places his phone down face up, making you pause.
"What?" You look at the screen — a countdown. "Are you gonna light me on fire at midnight?"
Jisung ignores your joke and reaches across to grab something off the raised part of the counter. A white candle you got months ago but haven't used, left to sit as decor next to your roommate's fake plant and your empty flower vase. "Hm." You walk out of the kitchen and down the short hall, then turn into your bedroom and grab the little blue lighter you keep in a desk drawer in case you ever need it. "Here," you say when you get back, handing Jisung the lighter. He lifts the candle, blowing lightly over the top of the wax to get rid of any dust, then lights it and places it and the lighter down.
"This should work fine," he murmurs, centering the candle on the countertop and beckoning you over. He taps the screen of his phone to awaken it and check the countdown. 22, 21, 20…
"You should make a wish," he says.
"Now?"
He nods. "Yeah."
You glance at the numbers on the screen and fidget with your necklace, pressing the little star with your thumb and close your eyes. "Tell me when," you mutter, and take a deep breath.
"Go ahead," Jisung says. The light twinkling sound of his countdown alarm plays, and you blow out the candle with your wish.
"Happy birthday." He screws the lid on the candle and pushes it back, waving the smoke away from your face. "What did you wish?"
"You can't just tell someone your wish," you deflect, dropping the charm from your hold.
Two fingers tap under your chin, coaxing you to meet his eyes. "No?" He hums, his fingers moving from your chin to brush a tuft of hair out of your face, his eyes boring into yours rather than dancing around your face like they usually do.
Neither of you speak aloud, leaving the admissions unspoken when his hand glides to the back of your neck, and you're both pushing yourselves forward, connecting in a flash. It takes a few moments to find rhythm, teeth scraping lips and noses knocking, his hands move to your waist and yours slide under his sleeve cuffs to hold onto his biceps.
The rush makes you lightheaded, but you're determined to stay focused on the feeling, letting him walk you backward the short distance from the kitchen to your sofa. You stumble a little, giggling under your breath with Jisung making sure to keep you upright until you make it there, where he gently sits you on the cushions before joining you, meeting your lips again with that same passion but softer, more measured movements, easing you down as he glides his tongue over your bottom lip. You grant him access easily, and travel your hands up his arms and shoulders, over his neck to tangle in his hair, giving it a small tug, which earns you an audible sigh. Pretty, you think.
Pleased, you tug again, slightly harder, prompting him to groan and pull back a few millimeters to speak between quick breaths, "that's not fair," before bringing his mouth down to the edge of your jaw.
You shut your eyes and moan softly as he moves over your neck, sucking lightly. "Careful not t—"
"Sorry," Jisung mutters, pressing a kiss over a spot that's definitely not about to be noticeably bruised for a few days. "It's… It won't be too visible, I think." He doesn't sound convinced himself, but you can't seem to care about the possibility of anyone seeing once you catch his heavy gaze admiring his work.
He sighs and returns to press light kisses to your lips, arms rested on either side of your head to hold himself up, caging you in, his hair brushing your forehead. You stare up at him, now holding onto the folded collar of his shirt. "Done?" you ask when he stops to watch you back.
He shakes his head. "Just… uh," he stutters, "you look… good. Like this."
You pull at his collar and kiss him again. He hums against your mouth and you give a teasing bite to his lip, drawing another cute sound out of him.
"I think I'm going crazy," Jisung breathes, and you grin. "I wanted–" his voice comes out rough between small kisses to the corners of your mouth "–this for so long," he admits. "K-kept thinkin’ about it… every day I— I'd leave you at your classes, ’n I… I can't even focus on mine, ’cuz of you— shit." He shifts above you, body moving against yours, and his eyes squeeze shut for a second. "I can't even focus right now."
"Sung..." You swallow, brushing over his collarbone with your fingers, "I... me too."
He rests his forehead on yours. "You too?"
"I thought you noticed." You press your lips together again, briefly. "I'm so bad at… acting normal around you."
He lets out a small laugh. "Yeah. I think we're both like that, though."
"…yeah." You inhale deeply, closing your eyes.
"Be…" he hesitates, rubbing his nose lightly against yours, "Be my…"
"Obviously," you interrupt. He laughs once more under his breath and kisses you again, so slowly and carefully it only brings back the lightheadedness you felt before, and you pull him by the neck, trying to bring him impossibly closer, like if you try hard enough you can fuse the two of you into one little gleaming mass of light amidst the universe.
౨ৎ He just can’t help himself! Every time he sees you, his mouth runs before his brain even processes he’s speaking and he’s challenging you to a battle.
Oh, god. He is one of those obnoxious, unavoidable NPCs who rush you while you mind your business wandering in game.
