Currently writing a fic with Jitka as the main character (she's lesbian), and thinking about where she comes to fit in Hans and Henry's dynamic. And I have so many thoughts. But the primary one is that if she did have a problem with Hans and Henry's relationship, namely Henry, she has absolutely no power to do anything about it.

I don't know if anyone has villainized her, but her mere existence already does. She is that 'thing' in the dynamic between Hans and Henry that separates them. Negativity is directed at her, be it directly or indirectly.

Hans has this need to have to get away from her. She represents a cage for him. His loss of freedom. Henry feels like he's being replaced by her. She comes and ruins their dynamic.

If Hans and Henry escape together, good for them, but Jitka is not only humiliated, but is essentially sent back home in shame. She's in the middle of a scandal that will follow her for her entire life.

Hans and Henry leaving means Jitka's reputation is ruined.

And even if they don't leave and keep their relationship, Jitka has no power to do anything about Henry. Like at all. Divorce was not really an easy thing to get.

Her feelings in the relationship do not actually matter. She's there to help Hans and her family secure land, and produce an heir. Men took mistresses, medieval men had male lovers.

Hans has considerably more freedom in the relationship than Jitka every will. Jitka is Hans's property, and is expected to obey him and endure in all things.

The irony of her being seen as a 'cage for Hans' is that in reality, Hans is the cage for her. She gets trapped in a loveless marriage with a man who has his heart on someone else, who he has easy access to.

Did Jitka have any lovers? Does she have any friends? If so, they are back home, away from her.

I do like to believe Hans gives her freedom to do what she wants.

But Hans's cage is very much more open than Jitka's ever will be.

All in all, I feel incredibly sorry for her. I feel worse for her than I do Hans and Henry, because inevitably, she will have it worse. Always.

And will be expected to go through it with grace.

On a side note, I do see her and Henry being friends considering how similar they are.

The final prompt list won't mention specific ships/characters (although I do take note of the every idea sent to the ask box - if the suggestion included a ship, I'll try to word it in a more generic manner in the final list so please don't get discouraged!).

But your ask reminds me - would it be a good idea to create a subpage or a post with ship suggestions?

Beyond the ones you suggested, anon, I've seen some interesting ships suggested by @shmuel-ben-sarah-kcd2 (Death/herbwoman, Sara/Henry's mother), it might be good to gather them in one place to serve as an inspiration? :D
