1. Association with some Social Work or NGO
Since you are using your DROP year for CAT preparation, hence taking a full-time job is out of the question. However, getting associated with a social work or NGO is certainly going to add more value to your current resume. Join an NGO, share the cause, experience the work and get involved with the same. A simple part-time job where you can dedicate your leisure time will give you an extra edge over many. Avoid bluffing as it may increase your difficulties in the PI round.
2. Go into Teaching
Another part-time work, where you can enhance your skills by teaching the same. Get associated with a coaching or school and enhance your skill as a faculty. This will not only help you with the preparations but will also add up to your resume.
3. No Marks for 6 Month Work Experience
IIMs only award bonus points to candidates with over 2-3 year of work experience. No weightage is given to less than 6 months of work experience. The bonus point is rewarded on a scale of 10.
For Example: Those with over 2 years or less than 3 years of professional experience, IIM award bonus points ranging from 5-10 points. Again, bonus points also depend upon the quality of work experience that a candidate has.
4. Enhance Your Skills
Utilize your GAP YEAR to learn a new skill or to enhance your old one. Get enrolled with some online learning course, such as MOOCs or others and learn a new skill. There are thousands of courses available online which are provided for free by many reputed colleges and universities of the world such as “MIT, Harvard, Stanford University, and University of Michigan etc.”
5. Work Freelance
Utilize online space to learn some money and gain first-hand experience. What’s best about the freelance work is there are no preset work hours. You can work according to your will. With freelance work you can also enhance your skills and the experience will certainly add more value to your CAT resume.
