          when   you   think   of   JOCKS---  the   oh   so   popular   sport   players,   you   think   of   ARCHIE ANDREWS, REGINALD MANTLE and MOOSE MASON.   you  ASSOCIATE   the   label   with   BULGING   BICEPS   and   TREE TRUNK PHYSIQUES.   evidently   it   was   a   UNIVERSAL   thing.   though,   most   guys   in   such   a   CATEGORY   were   cruel   and   gawking.   and   while   kevin   fischer   ticked   off   all   the   EXTERNAL   required   boxes,   you   wonder   if   the   INTERNAL   checklist   did   too.   either   way,   you   are   WEARY   of   him.   betty   cooper,   resident   SUNSHINE BARBIE,   would   not   PROPERLY   be   able   to   DEFEND   herself   against   any   DISTASTEFUL   comments   right   then   and   there.   if   lucky,   you   would   FROWN   instead   of   becoming   TEARY EYED.   you   also   would   go   home   and   will   your   MAGIC   to   curse   and   punish---   you’re   a   NICE   girl,   after   all   !   at   least   from   a   PUBLIC   view   point.

She didn’t really understand all of the inner workings of high school, but she at least understood that it was unusual for someone like Kevin to talk to her. It was actually unusual for people to talk to her at all, most of the time. They had tried, but quickly decided that she was strange, and either left her alone, or only spoke to her when they felt like making her cry. She couldn’t help but wonder if he was here for the latter.

Still, she offers a small smile. Instead of questioning how he knows where she lives, she instead tries to be friendly. Assumptions never got anyone anywhere. It was better to be friendly. “Oh, hi. Kevin, right?”
