The MJF Effect
The funny thing is that when Hangman started taking off or losing his boot in matches - which I appreciate is apparently a thing from his past - I was thinking "isn't losing a shoe a thing in AEW/The Elite, when a title's about to change hands?". And when Joe was in the Countdown to Full Gear talking about how his faction's true form would be 'revealed' to the world, I felt like "this sounds like he's just starting something, rather than coming to the end of a feud", and when Hangman came out with a new titantron depicting all the victories he'd had in his current title reign I thought "well this almost feels like a eulogy for the reign". And I still didn't think Joe would be winning the match until the hand hit the mat the third time.
:)
The problem I have now is that I do, genuinely, love Joe even outside of the feud/ship with Max, and if he's going to have a world title reign I would love it to be a decently long one, where it feels like the focus is on him. The four months he had for his first is a while really, compared to some title reigns, but at the time it really felt like his reign was more about Hangman and Swerve than it was about him - which maybe makes sense, since it was probably supposed to be Adam Cole dethroning Max, so they didn't have storylines planned out for him. But I did find it a little disappointing, and if they were going to give him another title reign, I personally wanted it to be something more substantial.
So if he did really win the belt just so he can lose it to Max in a months' time, even though I've been crawling and begging for MJoeF interaction for months, I don't know if I'd find that kind of disappointing. It would depend how they handled it I guess - and just because he lost the belt wouldn't necessarily mean their storyline would end, championship rematches and vengeance last longer than one match, and the way they're building up the Opps as a faction, and a force, in general feels like it lends itself to a long-running position in the company - losing a match, or a belt, doesn't stop you from having a storyline, which is generally better to have. But I don't know. I never know how they're going to handle things.
So. The dream scenario for World's End now is that Max comes back, cashes in his contract for a match, Hangman and Swerve just deal with their issues on their own...and Joe says okay, but if you lose, you have to join The Opps, so I can keep an eye on you, and not challenge for the belt again while I'm holding it. Maybe in exchange for some other stipulation. And Max loses, and then just has to be Joe's property sidekick for a bit, until he can figure a way out of it. Possibly until Joe has to go film for Twisted Metal, and it's either very dramatic or he's like "alright, hold this while I'm gone". MAGIC.
Look at Joe's fucking face
