Alright some miscellaneous episode one thoughts on Death By Lightning:

Fran and Guiteau are doomed siblings unfortunately

The second hand embarrassment I got whenever Guiteau did something stupid needs to be studied

Obsessed with how Arthur is just Conkling's evil goon. Excited for his redemption arc.

Also obsessed with the various types of facial hair on the male characters in any group scene. We need to bring back facial hair in men, barely any politicians have it nowadays.

The 4 more years comment with Blaine fried me. Yeah he is gonna be back in 4 more years, get the nomination, and then be the only Republican to lose to a Democrat in 30 years and said Democrat was a terrible person that married a girl he used to babysit and was probably a rapist.

Obsessed with how tiny Conkling is but fun fact, that's not how he was in real life. He was 6 foot 3 and was said to be quite muscular by contemporaries.

Speaking of Conklin, I love how much of a little shit he is.

The look of betrayal on Sherman's face as Garfield swipes the nomination is frying me. It's giving "Don't talk to me. Don't come by my house. We're done."

I love Garfield trying to be a cool dad to his kids, it's everything.

Poor Garfield, that man was going THROUGH it. His ass did not want all that.

The random cuts to the flashbacks are hilarious. Like the judge mentioning the sex cult and then it cutting to that couple going at it while Guiteau farmed is everything.

"Who the hell is Garfield?"

I also love the opening of the guys finding that brain.

We need to bring back random chaos at political conventions. Cut the endless speeches, give me more of whatever that was.

That old man....

The anachronistic language takes me out a bit but who cares it's hilarious.

My only complaint is that they were framing Grant as the incumbent. Nah man, he was long gone by then 😭 the incumbent was Hayes, but it makes sense why they didn't include him. They couldn't cast someone with his magnificent beard (and also he wasn't seeking the nomination so it wouldn't make sense for him to be at the convention)

I wish we still lived in the 1800s in terms of roads because imagine just walking wherever the hell you want.

I love that little shit from Pennsylvania who kept voting for Garfield. Yessss speak your truth Timothee Chalamet lookalike.

Anyway in summary it was great. A bit slow at the start but I got sucked into it quickly. Looking forward to watching episode 2!
