Peter Murphy - Ninth
Hey all, one of the first records I ever assistant engineered is finally out. It's called "Ninth" by Peter Murphy. This was my first big gig apprenticing with John Siket up at Dreamland Recording Studio in Woodstock, NY. I remember it well. Great music, great people, great food, great studio, and a great education. I also remember driving out to Levon Helm’s Ramble barn/studio to borrow a Vox AC30. Wonderful memories. My recommended listening: “Memory Go”, “Seesaw Sway”, “The Prince & Old Lady Shade”, and “I Spit Roses” ROCK. -sw
Some hazy details: Recorded on their custom API discrete 48x48. The drums had fresh pieces of legal paper taped to their heads every take for added snap on attacks (yep). This led to a hilarious pile of paper that turned into a mountain behind the drums (a DW kit I believe) by the end of the session. Vocals were done with a U47 into an La-3a I believe. The band was tracked live @ Dreamland, with the strings overdubbed at Sear Sound in Manhattan.
