Titania Sleeping in the Moonlight Protected by Her Fairies, Watercolor and gouache (1866) Victorian academicist John Simmons (British, 1823–1876) captures a pivotal scene from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream. The watercolor depicts Titania, the Fairy Queen, resting under an arch of convolvulus and honeysuckle that symbolizes love in Victorian flower language.
