Hi Steph. So I have some meta thoughts. 1) In TGG both Lucy's brother and the tv lady call their sibling "love". I wonder if this has any mirror significance, to link the character or cases together? 2) In T6T, Sherlock texts "the fingerprints on your brother's neck are your own". I know people have talked about this in relation to M-Theory, but it reminds me of Sherlock talking about strangling Mycroft in TSO3 and miming it. It could be foreshadowing for TFP, but why invoke strangulation again?
Hi Lovely!!
Ooof, I'm a bit rusty on my Sherlock episodes (it's been a long timne since I've watched the whole series), but I'll try my best:
Honestly, I don't think so. Love is a common pet name used in the UK, if I understand correctly, just like North Americans use "pal", "dude", "buddy", "dear", and "honey" or "hun" for literally any relationship (my sis is "dude" lol). I think "love" is used for closer relationships, but again, I am Canadian and I don't want to speak for UK English even if we use most of their English, LOL.
Honestly, no idea. S4 makes no sense to me no matter how I look at it, but there was a time that many of us theorized that Mycroft was actually dying ([this post], [this post] & [this post]) and given many of us believe that S4 IS either John's Unreliable Narrator/Alibi or John's TAB, it's plausible that it could be another edit slipped into John's story. Or it's just weird writing. Either way, S3 makes no sense LOL.
Sorry I'm not much help other than that!
Anyone who wants to add their own suggestion, please do! Especially in correcting my most-definitely-wrong chatter about the British usage of "love".
The six thatchers. Series 4. The fake series we call it. If we go by the John's tab theory... wait no that's only for tfp. Well then if we go by the emp theory (which is getting weaker the more time passes) then The Six Thatchers makes more sense. If this is happening in somebody's mind, idc who's, then TST could be a mental construct. John has a blog post that detailed some guy killing his boyfriend & hiding the murder weapon in a Thatcher bust, then going around smashing them to get it back.
The exact same thing happens in TST, the blog post and episode even have the same freaking name. It was posted during ASIB times. If this happens in Sherlock's mp, then it could be that he was reading John's blog (which he was) and he created the Ajay story while reading that post.
I'm just scrambling for sense. Why would mofftiss use the same trope, same bust, same title twice? It's way too similar. If they were both references to the same ACD canon, I could understand, but they're way too similar for that.
UM……………,…..
Sherlock: I love you
Molly: I love you
Eurus: haha losers didn’t you know there was no bomb
VS:………….
John: (deep breath) you were the best and wisest man I have ever known
Sherlock: 😂your face! I turned the bomb off didn’t you know they have off switches
Holy hell, it’s the first time I’m watching this episode in 5?? or what months the boat scene folks, not real. Has to be a dream…the way it’s shot, the editing….everything. Has to be a dream sequence. I mean every scene so far felt off, but this was just to much. John’s TAB? I’m sold.
Nightmare vs Blog
So, ever since part two of Amy’s meta came out I’ve fallen in love with this “the show is the blog” theory. Problem is, I had already fallen in love with TFP as John’s TAB theory, especially as it was depicted by Marcespot. Now I’m trying to figure out which one I gravitate towards, or whether there is a way to have both.
Here’s the thing. The weakness of TFP as John’s TAB theory is that it does nothing to explain the oddities of T6T and TLD. Amy’s meta, on the the other hand, can be used as an explanation of the season as a whole, and in my opinion works perfectly for T6T and TLD.
However, I still think that TFP as John’s TAB is a better explanation of TFP. There are all sorts of reasons for that: the smoking gun, Mrs. Hudson’s voice during the “I love you” scene, the sudden deterioration of storytelling in TFP compared to TLD, etc. Also, while I could buy some pretty shoddy storytelling from John given the obvious depth of depression (and possible drinking) that is all-too clearly reflected in all the episodes if you watch them through the lens of John having written them, inventing a fake sister for a man of celebrity status just seems like a really stupid move if you want people to believe your fabrications. If you buy into the theory that John and Sherlock are working together on the blog (which I’m not sold on yet, but am definitely intrigued by) it seems even more unbelievable.
Of course, it is possible to go for a combination of theories—something alone the lines of John having written T6T and TLD (maybe after having recovered from being shot??) and TFP being his dying hallucination. But in a season which is already such a (brilliantly) radical shift in style and storytelling methodology, completely altering the storytelling mechanism part of the way through just . . . seems like a little much.
Then again, I suppose it could be seen as progression rather than a shift—going deeper into John’s mind—so maybe it wouldn’t be so much of a shift as I am perceiving it being?
@marcespot and @toxicsemicolon, please ignore this if you’re not interested, but if you are I’d love to hear your thoughts on if/how you think your theories could coexist. Thanks to you both for being brilliant and providing us with such wonderful food for thought :)
John really suffers that he has such a bad relationship with his sister. Maybe this is the reason why the Sherlock in his mind goes to the prison and still visit her.
Wow, this is a nice theory. John is compensating in his own mind for not being close to Harry..
It’s astonishing how everything makes sense with John’s TAB theory. God I love this.
Taken unawares by a stream of the Johntent running through my head suddenly during a meeting and had to go to the restroom because I literally started tearing up.
