The Pace Report: "The Musical Intuition of Kenny Barron" The Kenny Barron Interview
Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring NEA Jazz Master and multi-Grammy nominated pianist, Kenny Barron.
Kenny recently played a weeklong engagement at the famed Jazz Standard in NYC featuring his quintet featuring Kiyoshi accompanist on bass, Johnathan Blake on drums, Michael Rodriguez on trumpet and Dayna Stephens on saxophones.
His latest Impulse Records release is titled "Book of Intuition" and features his trio.
Throughout his career, Kenny has played with and recorded with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Yusef Lateef, Milt Jackson, Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Turrentine, and Ella Fitzgerald. The Philadelphia native was exposed by his brother, saxophonist, Bill Barron.
I sat down with Kenny during his stint at The Jazz Standard to discuss his role as a leader and composer, how Brazilian music helped him become a better pianist, and talk about some of his important musical influences.
