The last few weeks have caused me to really consider “what comes next”. I occasionally find myself looking to the past for inspiration. My father was like God to me. Many times I wanted to share my heart with him, but just could not get the words out. He was a “mans man” and only now do I understand why he was so hard. He had to be. The last ten years before he passed were exactly what I needed to “grow up”. He became softer. I learned to listen. ///////// Samuel London Evans and John B. Kelly in 1941. This photograph features (l-r) Samuel London Evans and John B. Kelly, Chairman of the Democratic City Committee and Director of US Division for Physical Fitness. Evans (1902-2008) was influential in Democratic politics from the 1920s to 2008 and often referred to himself as the oldest living Democrat in the nation. Evans was appointed to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Physical Fitness Commission. Additionally, he founded the American Foundation for Negro Affairs (AFNA) in 1968, which provided aid to African Americans, Hispanics, and economically disadvantaged students seeking professional careers in medicine, law, computer science, and the creative and performing arts. Evans was also involved in the founding of the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, served as the first black manager in the United States, and became the first Black to gain admittance to the International Society of Impresarios. #gracekelly #samuellevans #johnbkelly #jackkelly #1941 #blackhistory #philadelphia #roosevelt #international #societyofimpresarios https://www.instagram.com/p/CA92j4ZFJ6E/?igshid=1tbcwo4r9u19j
