One of my headcanons about John is: after the Fall, Mrs. Hudson never rented out 221B (Sherlock/Mycroft had given her enough money so she wouldn't have to). When John gets into a row with a girlfriend/Mary or is feeling particularly nostalgic or melancholy, he spends the night at 221B, either curled up in Sherlock's chair or in Sherlock's bed. He plays CDs of some of Sherlock's favourite composers and pretends that Sherlock is the one playing for him.
