This show was absolutely legendary at my college. As the story goes from friends who were backstage (I was merely a concert-goer in the front of the crowd), Chuck just picked up some local musicians for this show, then skipped line-check/rehearsal with them, so the show was the first time any of them played together. He strolled in around 10 minutes before he was due to go on, with a platinum blonde young lady 40+ years his junior who was dressed in just this side of nothing. He yelled at the crew “Get my friend a drink!” He downed a few himself, and then refused to go on until he got paycheck, but given that he scared the concert club promoting the show to death that he’d be a no-show, they didn’t trust him to stay and would only show it to him. When he went on, it was an ok show but he visibly hated the piano player, at one point stopping a song midway to shove him off the piano stool and show him how to play a basic 12-bar blues, before motioning as if to say, “ok, now your turn, idiot.” Without an encore, he finished his set, stormed offstage, grabbed the blonde and the check and was out the door in under a minute, leaving a college gym full of kids waiting and cheering for nothing.
