Here is a photo of a lonely #DoubleCheck in the #rain , "double checking" for his tape recorder and oversized calculator, items which most kids today don't even recognize or know what they are when peeking inside his open briefcase where he resided in #ZuccottiPark at this time . The relocation of sculptures in Lower Manhattan is not uncommon, but he was a fixture for a very long time and kept good company to many a traveler and New Yorkers daily. "Double Check" businessman (1982) by #JohnSewardJohnsonII is now residing on the Northwest corner of #Broadway & #LibertyStreet . The bronze sculpture was originally located near the #WorldTradeCenter in #LibertyParkPlaza where I occasionally ate my lunch on a slow day when I worked at the Comex Commodities Exchange at 4 World Trade Center. It was more like an outdoor communal gathering place back then with lots of live entertainment either there or at "The Sphere" sculpture which was located in the center of the ring fountain surrounded by all of the World Trade Center buildings including the Vista International Hotel which had it's own zip code of 10048, in a time that seems so far removed from the present. Part of a public place zoning requirement, Double Check became famous after the attacks on #September11th2001🇺🇸 , when photos of the debris-covered damaged piece were widely circulated, and first responders thought he may be a survivor when they initially arrived at the tragic scene at that awful moment. The scars from that day remain on the sculpture, as they do inside all of us. Since September 11th 2001 when 2,996 innocents were murdered, it is estimated that we've lost 3,549 members of the service in Afghanistan, and 4,887 members in Iraq.
