@jokaito said: he’s here, a year after all this, standing at the door before knocking thrice. why he’s here (recommended by his latest therapist or to break a cycle that haunts more than one generation already), who knows? when he sees his father he presents a gift: a cooking book full of recipes ren had collected in tokyo. “ ... i hadn’t expected you. sorry for showing my face; i'll leave soon. ” he juts it forwards and he bows in a way to hid his trembling lips. “ just .. uhm ... happy father’s day. ”
Knocking wasn’t something that Katsuya was familiar with, even on days when he had the day off from work. To anyone that knows him well, they usually rang the bell because of his distracted thoughts that shut most noises out. And that included knocks to the front door of the house. And the only reason why Katsuya had actually heard them was because they were so persistent and the fact that he was about to go into the kitchen and cook something for lunch. Sighing and a little upset that his food would have to wait until he found out who was causing quite a stir at the opposite side of the door to the main part of his house.
Katsuya opens to find a messy raven haired boy with a graphic tee, faded jeans, and fake glasses standing on the porch, a few presents in hand. It had been a year or so since he’s seen this person and didn’t quite know what had prompted this visit. Of course, Katsuya feels like his son would never come home. Due to the fact that both him and his mother pushed him away when he needed it the most. And there is no way it was just because he was doing his job or that they both followed the court’s orders. Even telling his son that it was due to the god of control making his parents behave that way back then wasn’t going to really make anything less awkward and strained. Katsuya had failed him during that time and he truly regretted not being just like he had taught Ren while the boy was still growing up. He instantly recognizes his son’s voice and the mirrored surprise upon seeing each other. Surely, Ren didn’t expect just to see an empty house or one that just contained his mother who could only be here for a couple days on end before having to return to the apartment complex. Seeing as he should say something here instead of just stare in disbelief, he took a chance and deflected a little bit.
“I suppose you were expecting Miss Amano. Er, Maya”. Katsuya grimaced when he didn’t quite say to Ren that he probably wanted to see his mother here but the surprise is so sudden that he didn’t really have time to say what he really wanted to. He hadn’t expected his son to visit him during this day and something told him that this meeting was a little bit forced on his son’s part. Katsuya supposes that Ren rather spend time at his brother Tatsuya’s place than actually being here. He did always like being over there to spend time with his uncle instead of this house, for sure. It was way more relaxed than his strict rules and stuffy environment at best. It’s not until Ren holds out a present and meekly hands over a cookbook and a mumbled small sentence.
Did Katsuya hear him right? He’s not too sure and accepts the gift awkwardly into his own hands before he hears the other parts of that sentence. Had Katsuya really terrify his own son for Ren to voice those words of not wanting to see his face anytime soon? That is own fault as they never really communicated when Ren was in Tokyo and after that as well. Coming today must had taken a lot of bravery and probably a lot of encouragement from other people in his son’s life. Maybe that LeBlanc caretaker had a hand in this? Who knows. All that matters is that he is here and maybe just maybe trying to patch things up. Moving forward even when things might not be ideal. Ren may deny it for the most part but when it comes to things like that, he’s just like his mother. So there’s still hope for his family and the next right thing to do was....
“Thank you Ren-kun. If you don’t have any plans today and if it isn’t too much trouble, I’d like to talk. Don’t worry I won’t interrogate you like I used to when you were growing up. Actually, I’m making lunch right now. Maybe pull up a seat and tell me what you’ve been up to”. He ushers his son into the house before Ren could even turn tail and bolt and is glad that his family would want to spend time with him during this day.
