I never realised how hard it is to think of angst for characters that aren't Cole and Zane 😂😂 so this is me working off the top of my head to deliver
This isn't necessarily angst, but can easily be taken as such if you think about other applications of this analysis
One thing I like to believe, that whilst Kai is for obvious reasons immune to fire (be it his own or not) he's not immune to the heat. The fire doesn't burn but he's in no way cool when he's using it.
Because its clear that he does feel temperatures. He feels the extreme cold of the snow in the Birtchwoods (I mention that because at that point he had his powers, where as in the Never-Realm he didn't and he'd probably feel it even more, not to mention the fact that it's an abnormal winter due to Zane's powers but I digress!)
He feels the warmth of the Bell-turned-Hot tub in season 10 when he did have his powers. He didn't fare too well in a volcano either.
Point being, contrary to the headcanon that he's immune to extreme temperatures, he's not. He feels as much as anyone else does. So he must feel it for fire, right? Say like he's cooking, and he's got the stove top on? That's hot, and he'd feel that. Heating a kettle up? He'd feel that heat.
Carrying a hot cup? You bet your ass he walks quickly to put it down because it hurts his fingers.
So sure, fire doesn't burn him, but he can get the heat from it. It might not hurt him physically, but imagine a burn that goes away once the source of heat goes. He summons his fire and his skin prickles and itches before it turns painful because there's such severe heat; only for it to disappear as soon as his flames do.
Think about the physical backlash he gets from his powers. Sure, he was born with them, but they're foreign in the same way Zane is with his ice powers that were given to him.
The elemental abilities are passed down but they're still seperate things.
Kai with hands that are red for a few minutes like he's dunked his hands in hot water only for it to go away, nerves humming with pain from heat that seems to have no source. His clothes still burn, his hair can still singe, he can overheat.
Kai is immune to fire in a way that normal people aren't, but that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't hurt him, even temporarily.
