10 December 2003 | HRH Crown prince and Regent Haakon, Queen Sonja and Crown princess Mette-Marit applaud Iranian human rights activist and Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi being awarded the Nobel Peace prize during a ceremony in Oslo's city hall. The Committee awarded Ebadi the prize for 2003 for her efforts for democracy and human rights ,"as a lawyer,judge, lecturer writer and activist , she has spoken out clearly and strongly in her country Iran and far beyond it's borders. She has stood up as a sound professional, a courageous person, and has never heeded the threats to her own safety".
