Jonathan Bailey in an interview: "Having the strength to correct oneself, that is true strength."
In an exclusive GRAZIA interview, actor Jonathan Bailey speaks openly with us about the secret of the Italian serenity he loves so much, his very personal everyday rituals, and what true romance means to him.
(translated from Grazia Germany)
Since his roles in the television phenomenon "Bridgerton", the cinematic highlight "Wicked" and the blockbuster "Jurassic World: Rebirth", the British actor has become an indispensable part of the international film world.
Milan is in a state of excitement: In the fashion capital, it's just been officially announced – Hollywood heartthrob Jonathan Bailey is following in the footsteps of some very big names and is the new MARTINI Man. We were there live and met the charming Brit for an exclusive GRAZIA interview. In the interview, he reveals what fascinates him so much about the Italian way of life, the simple ritual he uses to find himself again in everyday life, and what true strength and genuine romance really mean to him.

Jonathan Bailey: "If I were James Bond, I'd order a Martini Bianco Spritz."
The English actor is the new Martini Man which makes him even more perfect to be the new James Bond.
(translated from the Elle interview)
For your consideration, Nina Gold. To the casting director choosing the new James Bond, we remind you that Jonathan Bailey not only has the wit and charm of the world's most famous secret agent, he's also the most legitimate in saying "Shaken, not stirred" when ordering his favorite drink: the English actor is in fact the official Martini Man and was thoroughly trained to play the role in a fun short film in the new campaign for the iconic Italian aperitif brand. He passed the test with flying colors, also because "Viscount Bridgerton" (also known as Prince Fiyero from Wicked) is genuinely enchanted by our country and the ritual of the aperitif.
We met him exclusively before the Milanese evening that officially introduced him as the global face of the house. Wearing Bermuda shorts and a T-shirt, smiling and friendly as ever, he arrives directly from the German set of the legal drama Monsanto: "It's a film inspired by a true story, about a lawyer's battle against a chemical giant that produces pesticides accused of causing cancer. I'm very excited; we start shooting next week."
James Bond invented the Vesper Martini and always orders a Vodka Martini. If you were the new 007, would you suggest an alternative?
Definitely, I'd switch to the Martini Bianco Spritz.
Are you a fan of James Bond movies?
Yes, of course. I love them. The two characters everyone would love to play are Chewbacca from Star Wars and Moneypenny, James Bond's secretary (lover?) (laughs).
How does the new Martini Man feel?
Honored. I know this is an important legacy. Being a symbol for all Martini lovers around the world and for something so quintessentially Italian for years to come makes me feel special. I think I've come at the right time in my life. I'm happy, I'm quite confident, I don't feel the need to please anyone, I just want to have a good time; I can relax and be calm, take a step back and believe that everything will be fine. I feel like we are the result of the people we surround ourselves with. And the Martini Man is just that: style and elegance, but also someone who knows how to spend quality time with beautiful people. I'm proud of it for many reasons... Also because Martini collaborates with the charitable foundation The Shameless Fund (Bailey's foundation that works to protect LGBTQ+ people). So, it's not just about celebrating an elegant heritage, paying homage to Italian style, and wishing everyone a bright and joyful summer. Martini has been a great partner with The Shameless Fund, and knowing that the money is going back to my community is fantastic.
Is your wardrobe well thought out?
In everyday life, I'm instinctive. I think style is in the eye of the beholder; it all depends on perception, on what you convey to others. But I really like it when I see someone truly love the clothes they're wearing, when I understand there's a connection, a story behind it. If you love what you're wearing, a chemistry is created that makes everything flow smoothly. If I like something, I wear it until I lose it...
How do you see contemporary Italian style?
The psychology of Italian style is based on a culture of family, community, and shared experiences. And I think that as a result, there's a real sense of security in knowing who you are, because you reflect yourself in your community, your family, and your friends. For me, this is precisely the core of Italian style, both classic and contemporary. There's something concrete and rooted, solid, that takes its place, but is also shared. And I think this is also reflected in the sartorial choices. It's elegant.
The ideal aperitif?
By the water, by the sea, or by the pool. With my longtime group of friends, the ones I've known all my life, in a new place we reached on foot or by bike. I take aperitifs very seriously; I've mastered them now, and I never give them up, wherever I go. What I love is the calm: that moment between day and night, between work and pleasure, when you can sit back and relax. You can't rush a Martini Bianco Spritz. The ritual is precisely the quality of that time.
