Jon Foreman - Baptize My Mind
Greetings and salutations from the OLMC music ministry.
This week is one of my favorite feasts of the year where we celebrate the baptism of the Lord. The story of Christ's baptism is lesson in faithfulness for all of us. In the story Jesus comes to john for baptism and john says "I ought to be baptized by you yet you have come to me" Jesus responds with "let it be so for now. For in this way we shall do all that God requires" Christ is faithful to his father in all that is required. This is the start of his journey for the redemption of the world and as the spirit descends on him we hear the voice of God saying "This is my son with whom I am well Pleased"
"Many of the incidents which accompanied Christ's baptism are symbolical of what happened at our Baptism. At Christ's baptism the Holy Spirit descended upon Him; at our Baptism the Trinity took its abode in our soul. At His baptism Christ was proclaimed the "Beloved Son" of the Father; at our Baptism we become the adopted sons of God. At Christ's baptism the heavens were opened; at our Baptism heaven was opened to us. At His baptism Jesus prayed; after our Baptism we must pray to avoid actual sin."

The song I would like to highlight for you this week is called Baptize my Mind by Jon Foreman.
It has a line in the chorus that I think is particularly insightful. "for these seeds to give birth to life, first they must die" In our baptism we die to self so that we may rise with Christ. Just as Christ died and rose again for all to receive eternal life. Let us reflect on our own baptism this week and think of ways we can die to self so that we may be Christ to others.
