some thoughts on the ttrpg drama unfolding and dropout’s potential response
when the drama was just contained to jordon brown’s video and surena marie’s response, i don’t think dropout had a responsibility to say anything. carlos luna did repost jordon’s original video, but dropout is not in the business of policing social media.
but given b. dave walters’ claim that carlos was the reason an employment offer made to him was rescinded, i am curious to know if and how dropout will respond. there was no project or company attached to the claim, so it’s unclear if b. dave was referencing a dimension 20 side quest.
however, many online are making the assumption that this is connected to d20, and i would imagine that this may at the very least spark an internal investigation at dropout.
with the next episode of d20 coming out tonight, today would be the day to make a statement, however brief. but from a crisis pr perspective, this week may be too soon from dropout as a company to respond especially if an investigation is underway. they’ve jumped the gun too soon with past “scandals” so them being cautious makes sense to me.
a lot of celebs and companies will push news stories that they don’t want too much coverage about to friday afternoons, but i don’t think this strategy would work for dropout. my guess is that we may hear something towards the beginning of next week or the week after, if anything. maybe sharing that the investigation is underway or even the results of it. but i don’t see how this doesn’t result in some sort of change.
there’s always the chance that they say nothing at all and carlos ends up quietly stepping down, but that doesn’t really seem like their ethos. we’ll have to wait and see.
