Shimer is pleased to announce that Joseph Fitzpatrick will be joining our staff as Dean of Students.
Joseph worked extensively in Student Affairs at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, including most recently as Dean of Student Life. He brings experience, leadership, and enthusiasm for Shimer’s mission to the position.
Barbara Stone, Dean of the College and member of the search committee, said, "I believe I can speak on behalf of the whole committee when I say that we were extremely impressed by Joseph both during the initial interview and while he was one campus. His commitment to Shimer's mode of education and to the kind of students we attract is abundantly evident. We look forward to having him in place as DOS, a position whose absence has been felt, in time to welcome back returning students and a new entering class."
"Joseph struck me as someone who is very excited about Shimer," SaraLouise Dawson '14, another member of the search committee, wrote in an email. "Consider that he originally applied in 2009 and was on the lookout for an opportunity to work with us since then. His philosophy of balance for himself and his workplace is exciting, and I think will create excellence in Student Life."
Elaine Vincent, Director of Admission and Chair of the Search Committee, added, "The search committee worked tremendously hard and quickly to fill this position, and should be commended for its success. Joseph Fitzpatrick is a wonderful fit for Shimer."
