the night had lulled to an end, and once the fire was put out, the atmosphere was extinguished with it. the patch of grass he’d been making himself comfortable in was starting to make his shirt damp, and as much as he didn’t want to go back to his dorm, the party dying out didn’t give him much of a choice.
still, he was stubborn.
with a little help he stumbles to his feet, the heavy row of tequila shots stirring around in his stomach as he drags his feet through the dirt and grass. the walk from the fields back to campus feels longer than usual, and whether it’s because he circles in his mind two dozen times on the way, or because he’s just to drunk to move at a desirable pace, he doesn’t really know. the dimly lit hallway proves he’s finally made it, and kennedy leans against the doorway as he wraps his knuckles against the door.
when josie answers, he knows he should say something. his clothes are a mess, so unlike kennedy it’s hard to recognize, and then there’s the bruising that’s faintly starting to appear. any worthy words of explanation get stuck in his throat, so he doesn’t. instead, he kicks off his shoes as he gets in and fumbles his way to the couch, yanking the throw blanket off as he does. “ ‘m staying here. ” he mumbles. @josiehqs
