Do you have a Pinterest board for your project?
I do! I don’t hardly use Pinterest anymore, having been introduced to more reputable sites like Unsplash. I like to avoid art theft where I can, and the automatic understanding that uploaded images on Unsplash can be used is comforting to me.
But I haven’t deleted Pinterest wholesale, because it’s still a lot of work I put into collecting those images.
My process for moodboard-making now mostly consists of thinking of images on my own, and then if I need more to fill out the board, I open up Pinterest to see what I saved. Then I’ll search that term on Unsplash and try to find good ones.
So, for example, if I forget that gold coins is a good image for pirates, but I saved gold coin images on a Pinterest board once, when I see gold coins it serves as a reminder and I can go and search for gold coin images on Unsplash.
It’s a bit of a back and forth but it works out!

What's your favorite way to read?
i’m definitely a print/physical book person. i knew e-readers have blue light cancellation screens and adjustable settings, but i still find that my eyes start to feel strained or my attention tends to wander unless i have actual printed-out, physical text in front of me -- whether it’s a book or a newspaper/magazine article or some text i’m proofreading!
and my favorite reading “atmosphere” when i’m reading for fun is in a comfortable chair or couch with some water or tea and maybe some kind of snack that doesn’t get my fingers dirty (i.e. gummy bears). it can’t be too comfortable (or a bed) though or i’ll just immediately fall asleep lol

You ask some of the most fun questions!!!
Scary/horror isn’t my usual genre, but boy do I love me some Stephen King. I’ve probably read more of his books than any other author with the exception of Terry Pratchett.
Some of my favorites (The Stand) may not count as scary, but The Shining and Pet Semetary are incredible works of fiction. And his short stories are even better. 1408, The Lawnmower Man and You Know They Got a Hell of a Band all really threw me for a loop.

I’ve been a connoisseur of horror films since I was a kid (when I actually wasn’t allowed to watch those movies but I would do it anyway when I stayed over at friends’ houses), and now that I have about 20 or so years of horror movies under my belt, I HAVE OPINIONS.
Midsommar. This is the smartest, scariest movie I have ever witnessed. I will never watch it again, and I think that actually vouches for how good it is.
The Shining. Full disclosure, I haven’t read the book, but the way it’s interpreted on the screen is fucking. FRIGHTENING. I know Steven King disowned this interpretation, and that’s his right. But Kubrick certainly tapped into an everyday abuse mindset that made the haunting of some random hotel completely secondary to the real haunting: Jack’s addiction to alcohol and his violent tenancies toward the most vulnerable people, his wife and child, who didn’t have the means to get away from him. (I mean, the movie has its flaws, both on and off the set. But however fucked up Kubrick and Nicholson were in their “method,” I don’t think it even made a dent in the true horror of the film: that you can’t defend against someone you love who doesn’t love you the same way.)
Trick ‘r Treat. I fucking LOVE this movie. It’s an anthology, yes, but it’s SO satisfying. And I think the primary purpose of horror is catharsis. That the people who deserve punishment actually get it. It has its flaws, certainly (and not everyone who gets the short end of the stick does deserve it), but it’s fun and as lighthearted it gets when it comes to horror.
The Haunting of Hill House. It’s a show, I know. But it’s the best modern horror story I’ve come across in a long time that checks all my boxes. (And that’s something coming from someone who watches A LOT of horror.) Also, episode 6 (Two Storms) is a cinematic MASTERPIECE! I can’t watch the last episode without crying my eyes out. DO WATCH IT.
Signs. I KNOW, okay. I KNOW. But I genuinely had trouble sleeping the first time I saw this movie. There’s something inherently creepy about cornfields, yes, but it’s the crisis of faith and sense of family that really get me. I just really like this movie and I don’t think it deserved the bad wrap it got, okay.
That’s my top five. I have A LOT of others that I like for other reasons. Like, I also like Cabin in the Woods because it’s self-referential and funny in a dark way, but Joss Whedon is a dillweed. Also Dawn of the Dead even though the first one makes a blatant anti-choice message and the new one doesn’t let ANYONE live. Still, really well done.
Anyway, I love/hate scary movies and I will always tell you why. This is my life’s work :P
