There were words; a LOT of words that they couldn't exactly read very well. The pictures looked interesting at least⠀—⠀but they didn't really provide the best clues as to what the words were about.

⊱ ★ ⊰ㅤ˗ˏˋㅤBut at least it was appealing enough to the child that they would turn; holding the paper out to the woman with a QUESTIONING look upon her face. She was probably the one that wrote all that stuff down, after all.

Normally, Frederick would take more care in how he presents himself to others. To come across as desperate, unsettled and irritable is something he always wants to avoid - yet he doubts that someone as observant as Miss Journalist here could possibly miss the bags under his eyes or the oppressive feeling of the air around him.

There's nothing he can do for that now, though. To avoid suspicion may be impossible, but if she is someone he can't trust, then she likely already had her eye on him anyway. He just makes to make sure that she thinks his state is a sign that her plan is working, and not because he's onto her schemes.

Because she must be doing something. These- episodes he's been having; the headaches and dizziness alongside the sudden and abrupt intrusion of feelings he can't explain - someone has to be behind it. And while here, surrounded by strangers each with an agenda of their own, he's at an overwhelming disadvantage... Frederick has no intention of allowing himself to be used or disposed of without a fight.

"Miss Journalist. I wasn't expecting to see you here so late at night." he delivers his pointed remark with suspicion, warily watching her every move as if some tiny motion might somehow give her away. "Have you been having trouble sleeping as well?"

" Hmm? " the Psychologist hummed as she was asked the question. She turned and looked back at Alice with a calm expression, as if the answer was obvious. " Oh. Because we are never leaving this place. "

She had been talking a bit about her life before coming to this manor, the time she spent with Emil. Ada spoke in the past tense about the home they shared. After all, they will never return to it. Ada was an intelligent woman who saw the reality of her situation. She and Emil were never leaving this place, just like the rest of the Survivors. Their house was a distant memory. The people they were might as well have died.

" None of it matters anymore. We will never return to that house, just as we will never resume that life. That part of ourselves is dead. " She hoped for Alice's sake that the Journalist understood that... The sooner she did, the better off she would be.

Norton tried to peer through the glass of the building, attempting to see what was lurking inside... He held his magnets tightly in each hand, just in case he needed to throw one at a moment's notice. He felt it too; the way his heart pounded in his chest any time a Hunter was near. It made his adrenaline pump, his fight or flight reflexes pulsing beneath his skin... If the Hunter was inside the building, he could take them on. Distract them and give the Journalist time to run. That was his job, wasn't it?

" Don't see anything... " he mumbled to her as he inspected further. There were so many buildings in this 'Chinatown' replica, so many places for a Hunter--or a Survivor--to hide... For all he knew, the Hunter could be in a different building, just close enough for his heart to have that reaction.

He turned to look at the Journalist beside him. " Get out of here, don't waste time. I'll find the Hunter and hold 'em off. " He wasn't being heroic; this was just his job. He couldn't care less what happened to Alice, as long as he could still secure a win.

Ms. DeRoss was a journalist--or so her title suggested. And Emily knew journalists were known for their curiosity. She had no issues with curiosities on a scientific standpoint, but once things got personal, that's when a line is crossed. Emily didn't want to share anything about herself with this Journalist. She knew if Alice had even the slightest bit of further curiosity about the Doctor, she would go sniffing around for more information...and Emily couldn't have that.

" Nothing, " the Doctor answered, her tone a bit more stern than it normally would be. " I simply enjoy my privacy, just as I'm sure plenty others do here in this manor. Bothering people over their personal matters will not make you friends here, Ms. DeRoss. Please respect the privacy of other Survivors. " Especially Emily herself...

" Aren't you~? " Was this girl courageous or foolish? That was left to be determined as she stared Death in the face, denying all fear with the bravery of an idiot who didn't know any better. What good did this 'lack of fear' do for her? It wouldn't spare the Journalist from her fate. It wouldn't keep the Nightwatch from tearing her limb from limb... If anything, all it could possibly do was aggravate him further.

But Ithaqua was in a good mood. He wasn't threatened by her declaration at all. In fact, it just amused him. Humans and their foolish pride... Was that a trait he once shared with them, long ago in a time he could no longer remember?

The Nightwatch crept closer upon his thin stilts, eerily tilting his head in a manner that was more akin to a beast than a human. Though she wouldn't be able to see his true face behind the one he wore, his wicked grin was evident in his voice alone. " Such a brave little Survivor you are~... What will you do? Shoot a gun at me? Stun me with a curse? You have no such ability~ There is nothing you can do to stop me... So be afraid. "
