Art fight is less than a month away, so it's time for me to start prepping! I finally made a new reference sheet for Blixer since my last one was over three years old. This time I made an alt to show off his scars/markings better

Design and Color II: Harmony Assignment

Second assignment from my Design and Color class! The main focus of this assignment was creating harmony through the use of analogous colors and repeating shapes/colors. After we settled on a design (by first creating 20 thumbnail sketch, narrowing it down to the top two and making refined versions, then the class picking what they think is the best of the two for your final design) we made color studies to explore different analogous color pallets.

I ended going with a color pallet of blue, blue-green, and blue-violet. The repeating shapes/patterns are triangles/pointy shapes and swirls.

Though the colors aren't exactly cannon because this was a color pallet assignment, these are the two gods from my JSAB AU, City of Purity! The violet one (who is actually pink) is Karotayon, the god of death and corruption, while the blue-green one (who is actually just light blue/cyan), is Kinasyon, who is the goddess of life and purity. These gods are siblings who created the world together.

Design and Color II: Temperatures of Light and Shadow Assignment

For this assignment we had to take our own reference images of a location at two times of day, one with warm light and cool shadows (such as sunset) and one with cool light and warm shadows (such as indoor lighting through a window or just after the sun sets when the sky is still light). Night-time, which I wanted to do, is too dark for photographs. So I took a picture just after sunset and used the colors from it, only changing the sky to be darker. We then pulled colors from those photos to make our own illustrations. Some people just did a recreation of their exact photo, but I wanted to make an illustration of Levi, one of my JSAB AU characters. To do this I made sure my roommate, who I was photographing for the reference images, was wearing black, white, and pink so I could grab the colors I needed from the photo.

This was a hard assignment but I really like how both versions of the image turned out! I personally enjoy the night time one more than the sunset one, but they were both a fun challenge to make.

I don't have any thumbnails for this one since we were referencing specific photographs, but I do have some progress sketches/lines under the cut!

Design and Color II: Monochromatic Assignment

Time for some of the work I've completed this semester! This was my first assignment for my Design and Color II class! We first created a value and tint scale using one color, white, and black. We then used that value/tint scale for the colors in a full illustration!

This illustration is a full version of the last drawing I made for Inktober/OC-Tober. It's my version of the Annihilate scene from my JSAB AU "City of Purity".

The value scale, thumbnails, and sketches are under the cut! I really liked a lot of my thumbnails and refined sketches that didn't end up being chosen by my class, I will likely turn some of them into full illustrations in the future.
