{ 30 } Skype Date
During Versae’s hiatus, Sooyeon always goes back to America. Few years back, she never really expected herself enjoying herself as Versae’s leader but what she never really expected was Jieun calling her on skype about a month ago. At first, they had many to talk about – Jieun’s blooming success, how the other members of Versae are coping with their long hiatus but slowly, it turned to them just enjoying each other’s company that is just a glance away (they’re at the mercy of their internet connection though)
While Sooyeon browses the web, she can hear Jieun practicing her vocals or sometimes, she would watch Jieun mute the microphone as she commences her daily dance training – much hardwork is needed for a solo act and Sooyeon is alright with Jieun checking in every once in a while but when the girl has a night off because her vocal teacher called in sick, they can’t seem to find a spark to create a conversation again. Now they just skype for the sake of it.
“Sooyeon,” The younger girl suddenly says, formalities absent, “are you still there?”
It was no strange event where Sooyeon just automatically falls asleep infront of the camera and Jieun would message her countless times to wake her up before eventually hanging up. It was an awkward incident for the older girl so she quickly says, “Yes, I’m here Jieun.”
A sigh of relief and then, “When are you coming back? ”
“That’s odd, never heard of a lily seeking out the ice that froze her.” Sooyeon slyly replies, as she scrolls through tumblr. She’s scrolling through successful fanmeets and concerts by other Apollo artists and feels guilty that Versae wouldn’t have that in a long time – or maybe forever. As much as her heart aches, she closes the tab and starts youtubing some acoustic to keep her lost in her own music world.
When Jieun remained silent, Sooyeon knew she had hit a nerve. Before the hiatus, Jieun had been trying her best to open up to Sooyeon as they worked together for one collab and somehow, Sooyeon managed to break the Nation’s ice princess – proving once and for all who is the real ice queen in Korea. The collaboration project halted and here they were, pretending as if their collaboration never happened until just now.
“Unnie,” Jieun says slowly, “I –”
“Why?” Sooyeon interjects, turning to see if her baby sister was listening in on their conversation. Maybe she needed to put in some earpieces if this started getting personal.
Silence conquers again and then, “We should collab again so stop being a bitch and tell me when you can fly back as soon as possible.”
Sooyeon clicks her tongue, as much as she hates Jieun for resembling so much of herself, she can’t ignore the fact that she secretly likes Jieun’s insensitive attitude. Weird but she just does.
“Maybe next month, maybe not. I’m gonna be picking Jia up from China.”
