“His natural instinct will be to kill you”. Henrietta, darling, Nick has dated two women in his life. Both were hexenbiests. He married a hexenbiest. I’m pretty sure killing them is not his natural instinct.
Building off this Grimm thing I wrote not too long ago. Yes, we are fucking with timeline and character relationships and dynamics shit. This is my sandbox and you're the one who decided to jump in it with me. So,
Envision with me:
It's been almost a month since the whole reveal that Monroe's instinct sees them all as Pack and Nick as his their Alpha. They've taken the time to explain more of what that means to those new to this world. Nick and Wu have been going through the Grimm library and coming to Monroe with questions. Julie is approaching it a little more scientifically and is comparing what the boys are finding and Monroe's explanations to the behavior of wolves in the wild and in captivity. Holly's mom (Like I said last time, I'm calling her Susan and iykyk) has been dutifully compiling all of the information and sorting it into little informational pamphlets for her daughter and the other 'kids'.
And that's when trouble shows up. Or more accurately, Trubel.
She didn't come around Portland often these days. Usually preferring to keep in contact with Juliette and Rosalee over text and e-mail, only really reaching out to Nick if she had a pressing Grimm question. When she shows up on Juliette and Nick's front porch during one of the Pack's get-togethers Monroe is not as surprised as he thinks he probably should be when the rest of the kids flock to her. Gracie and Holly immediately start asking about her new jacket and the places she's been while Barry and Roddy start asking about promised souvenirs from her travels. Monroes gathers that Trubel has taken a sort of 'big sister' role with the kids, and that makes the bit of wild in his chest damn near purr in satisfaction. He's glad that the kids are looking after each other. He's glad that as the only other Grimm in their Pack and one of the oldest 'kids', Trubel instinctively took on a position that put her as protector and guide to the other kids. He's not as glad about the way Rosalee is looking at him with her adorable cheeky little shit-eating grin.
His darling fiancee has taken every chance to poke well-meaning fun at him for his now exposed soft spot for his Pack, his family. She has also taken to adding events to his social calendar he would normally never arrange or agree to himself. Now he's leading music lessons for two of Bud's kids, Hanson and Holly, with Roddy as his 'assistant' on Saturdays. Baking with Juliette and Hank every Wednesday and watching the game with Nick and Bud and Hank and Wu on Sundays. He's booked. He finds he doesn't hate it as much as he likes to say he does.
It's Holly, dear sweet -still half feral most days- Holly that asks why Nick is Alpha instead of Trubel. It's an innocent question born from one of her 'studying sessions' with Gracie and Hanson of the books in Nick's Grimm library. The three of them had come across different sources that established the role of Grimm as something usually passed through the female line, something that mothers raise their daughters preparing for and that sons either never inherit or never survive long enough to be of any use as a Grimm.
The entire house goes silent. Susan looks mortified, Trubel, Roddy, Hanson and Gracie look like they're going to burst from trying not to laugh. Poor Barry just looks confused but Monroe sees as the dots connect. Kid may be a little slow on the uptake for some things but Monroe himself will fight anyone who says he's dumb.
The adults are another story. Most of the ones who are closest to Nick have the same look on their faces as the kids. Bud, his wife, Rosalee and few of the others who haven't seen Nick's self-deprecating streak look a range of confused, shocked and terrified at the girl's words.
Most of the tension is broken by Nick himself laughing so hard he bends down in half, holding his own weight by placing his hands on his knees as he tries to drag in breathes between wheezing laughter. Monroe can't help joining him when Holly scrunches her little nose and cocks her head in confusion, looking to her mother as if Susan will be able to explain why Monroe and Alpha look like they're going to pass out from laughing at her question.
In the end it turns into a 20-questions sort of night. Nick and Trubel field questions from the Pack about their experiences as Grimm. Trubel and Nick have more than a few moments where they're faced with the glaring differences with their abilities and their relationships to their shared inheritance based on their genders and the ages they came into their abilities. Bud is often hushed by his wife when he looks like he's about to ask something either very insightful or very offensive. Monroe avoids the pleading eyes of Ephraim and Frank when they notice Roddy and Barry sitting noticeably closer together than the other kids, as if he could stop them.
In the end, it's a good night. Holly still looks a little confused about the whole thing, but he chalks that up to her still getting used to communicating solely in human speech. And as the Pack works passed the initial tension caused by the question Monroe can't help but guiltily think to himself, he's kind of glad that Adalind and Renard couldn't make it.
For those who don't know the series Grimm, it's about a detective named Nick Burkhardt (1st gif) , who was a grimm, basically someone who can see wesen. Wesen are like the folk lores, mythical beings in different parts of the world. If you like supernatural, or series that feature this kind of thing, folk lores, fantasy, you'll gonna love this.
Ps. My favorite character was Monroe, 2nd Gif.
This is how Wesen recognizes Grimms. The deep black eyes.
