Two Guys Picking Strings: Frank Cassel and John Henry Area Family Favorites Play Junior Jams
From birthday parties to music festivals and farmer's markets you won't have to shout out too far the names of these two D.C. area musicians, John Henry England (the Guitar Playing Man) and Frank Cassel (Banjo Man) to receive a resounding chorus of kids and a parents alike: we love that guy! For both guitarist John Henry and banjo player Frank, playing for kids and families comes naturally, though it grew first from careers in music spanning many years and genres.
Bethesda native John Henry's focus on kids, following lead guitar duties in several different rock bands, came when he had children of his own and witnessed firsthand how beautifully music moves and educates kids. On three childrens' albums and in performance after performance of his repertoire of both original music and "covers," he demonstrates love for his craft and for his audiences.
As a popular bluegrass artist, Frank Cassel tours this area and other parts of the country performing solo and with his band New Mountain Fever at festivals for fans he finds are very loyal to the music, a surprising number of whom are residents of the D.C. area. Events like the Kingman Island Blues Festival in April and next weekend's D.C. Bluegrass Festival are two examples of bluegrass get-togethers supported by local audiences. Frank enjoys introducing bluegrass sounds to children and families and has shared his music in venues all over the D.C. area. Read more about Frank here and see the video for Sugarloaf Mountan Song off his latest album American Acoustic.
