1, 2, 3, 7, 11, 13, 15, and 18 for Junkan please!~
1. My sexuality headcanons for both of them
They’re both bisexual/pansexual! This is canon for Mikan, and used to be (assumed?) canon for Junko before DR3 made it more questionable. I think they both have attraction pretty even across the board, too.
2. Who fell first?
This 100% depends on what flavor of Junkan you’re going with.
I think I could see both. Mikan falling first, with Junko initially wanting to use and manipulate her, but genuine feelings grew as she got to know her (or depending on the flavor, not at all). Or Junko falling first, even in a despair universe; where she sees this heart broken, angry, hurting girl; and falls in love with her despair at first sight. Personally, I think I prefer the later scenario; Mikan is canonly great at reading faces and thoughts/feelings/intentions, so I feel like to get her on Junko’s side, Junko’s care for her has to be rooted in at least something genuine.
In a non despair universe, I 100% think it’s Junko, too. I think in any of these scenarios, Mikan finds it hard to trust her at first. She basically has to do what Hajime does in their FTEs; prove she’s genuine in liking her. Mikan can’t really understand why people would like her for her, and not what she can do for them; so it takes a bit to convince her sheltered heart, I think. At least in most cases.
3. What did their first date look like? (unless canon has showed that)
Hmmm. Maybe a horror movie! Mikan canonly likes them, and I can’t imagine Junko doesn’t either! But I could also see a ton of unofficial dates in the nurses office, with Junko coming up with any reason to visit (which could manifest as even self injury). I think for their first official one, though, Junko wants to see her “ugly” side. Both to access how to approach converting her… and cause she’s Junko; she loves that crap regardless. So: movie date. I don’t think at a theatre, though. She wants to be able to pause it, to talk to Mikan and access her thoughts and start to influence them. Turning Mikan’s talk of how she’d heal the victims slowly into how she’d attack them more efficiently. Mikan might get insecure after the fact that she showed her “ugly” side, which is good for Junko; she can reassure her and subtly encourage that kind of thinking at once, desensitizing her to the thought of preforming violence and accepting one of her “bad sides” all at once. So yeah! I think they stay in, get a big bowl of popcorn, and have a horror movie night. Even in a non despair universe, I think Junko is drawn to Mikan’s more rough and “ugly” sides, so she’d still do this, I think.
Another date option is shopping— because I think Junko would love showering Mikan in gifts, and I think at first they’re be really basic gifts, and they remain unconventional. Like— they go to a pharmacy and Junko buys her all of her favorite bandages. Something like that, I think.
7. What do they wear to a pride parade?
Bisexual flags for both, maybe a nonbinary pin for Junko— Junko may actually go in drag, maybe. Either super skippy feminine leather or just straight up boysona-ing it up there. Mikan would be a lot more conservative I feel like. Nothing oversized, since she canonly doesn’t like oversized things— maybe a slightly tight dress she borrowed from Junko? I think Junko’s rocking black, where Mikan’s rocking a white outfit— evoking Monokuma. Oh, maybe Mikan is in more lacy stuff, and Junko’s in more leather?
11. How long did it take for them to get together?
A medium amount of time. Not super short, and not super long. Long enough to earn Mikan’s trust but also short enough that Mikan doesn’t start catastrophizing. So, like… Junko does about as much hanging out as your standard FTEs, and then she starts inviting her on dates.
13. Who came out first?
Mikan knew sooner (she figured this out by like five, just didn’t have the words for it), but Junko came out sooner. I think Mikan definitely didn’t realize it wasn’t the societal norm at first, so she maybe confessed to a girl, or kissed a girl, and it blew up in her face. She kind of conceptualizes sexuality — both with men and women — as something dirty, and shallow from others. Girls make fun of her for being a girl kisser and then enact sexuality onto her in the dark. She’s their dirty secret. She’s their shame. Everyone kind of either knows she’s bi without her ever telling them, or they don’t care and want to use her anyway (both guys and girls).
But she never had to “come out,” and she just kind of assumes either people already know or it doesn’t matter because people will use her no matter what. So it takes her a bit to actually realize that… well, for one thing, that love exists. That its not all sexuality, but romance too. I think after she realizes that romance is indeed a thing and not a fantasy she made up in her head, and its possible for her… that’s when she starts IDing as bi in reality, that’s when she identifies with it; when its not something enacted onto her, but something she chooses. When its not shallow. Then, she’s proud to be bi and identify with it and “comes out” officially.
Meanwhile, Young Junko is completely oblivious to her own attraction to girls at first (going off Ryouko here). She thinks its also normal but in a different way to Mikan; Mikan thought romantic intent towards girls was normal, Junko is thinking romantic feelings are normal platonic ones that everyone gets about girls. Yasuke realizes she likes girls before her and assumes she also knows since… how shes talking about them makes it obvious to him lol. (Mukuro is also oblivious until Junko realizes too.) I think it a shifts as she gets older, where she halfway starts recognizing her own feelings as romantic— kind of. I think she thinks stuff to herself like, “I could date a girl if it got me closer to my despair plan,” basically putting boys and girls on the same level as “able to be seduced to the dark side.” But I think the moment any of her crushes on/infatuation girls turn serious, she’ll be like, “oh. OH.” And then she immediately mentions it in an interview off hand and the internet is either like, “our bisexual queen!” Or they just don’t acknowledge it cause it was kind of off hand. Either Jojo Siwa coming out (a ton of twitter posts calling her an icon), or Lady Gaga coming out (some people still think she’s just an ally). She would also use her bisexual status to manipulate Juzo; if she realizes he’s gay before she comes out, I could see her not coming out publicly at all, and only doing so privately, but that would purely be to position herself as “actually deeply ashamed of my sexuality too, Juzo, promise,” to better manipulate him (not because she’s actually really ashamed). But if she’s already out, she takes a different angle of almost mentoring him? (Whereas not out Junko would position herself as someone to protect, which would probably work better with her goals.)
Either way, Junko IDs with bisexual before Mikan (whether in private or public), but Mikan knew she liked girls first. I think Mikan would be knees deep in a developing relationship with Junko before publicly being like, “yeah I’m bisexual” (maybe even dating Junko already) and it be a positive thing for her, meanwhile the moment Junko realizes she has actual feelings for a girl she’s whipping out the bi flags. I think after discovering love, Mikan would take a lot of comfort in the community and label, with real sentimental weight, where Junko is moreso just thinking how she can a) use this to her advantage and b) have fun with it. Is this all making sense?
15. Who was the first person to find out that they're dating?
Depends on what you’re doing with DR3! Cause I think Ryota is actually a good candidate for it. Other option is Mukuro! Which honestly would probably be the right answer here. Mukuro is def the first of Junko’s loved ones to know aha.
18. Who is better at cooking?
I don’t think either of them are good at it, lol. Junko microwaved a computer once in canon; that does not make me think she’s good at cooking. She doesn’t know how microwaves work! The only thing I see her being good at is maybe hot chocolate, but only because Mukuro taught her it. Mikan might be a bit better because she had to take care of herself? But I imagine she’s not the greatest at it either. I feel like she can make amazing sick foods (from taking care of patients) but most other things she’s limited in.
