A new girl on navigation was never a bad thing, and a new pretty girl on navigation was absolutely incredible. The last new girl treated Chekov like a puppy, but Sulu was adamant that he’d get the next one. He’d piloted the ship with mastery before, and he was positive that he could do it just as well now. Piloting a starship wasn’t exactly an easy job, and he was certain that it would take no effort to impress her.

In fact, Sulu just (near-)singlehandedly had the Enterprise dodge an unmapped asteroid field, and he had turned to get her reaction on it.

…except, she had hardly been paying attention to the danger.

“Chekov, that was so cool!” she said, leaning in closer to the Russian. “You got us out of that one quick, didn’t you? So amazing…”
