I am going fucking insane.

I just found that an artist who I really like, Just Fern, is actually not a real person but a persona invented by some dude called Jeff Burgess to experiment with pop punk. Like I'm going insane; I was obsessed with her for a while but it turns out she just isn't real???? I have been listening to a fake woman????

I'm assuming Jeff Burgess is a man based solely on the name; I cannot find evidence otherwise anywhere. Dude's an enigma. The persona of Just Fern is a trans woman so there's almost definitely some gender-y stuff going on there but I really can't be sure.

I wanted to include the note I got from the artist since I liked it so much:

“Hi! My name’s Fern I’m a trans lesbian musician and just put out my best video yet, imo.

It’s for “Ember” which is a Beach Boys-inspired track.  In the video I’m in the desert, punching and kicking my way into the New Year, which I see as a metaphor for the attitude that we all need to have going into 2018.  Opposite me, my partner, another trans woman, does tai chi to represent another aspect of self care and self preservation that’s so important.
