Listen, I don't really like to be too controlling over what other people like to ship. Shipping is just supposed to be fun, and I don't really feel like I have the right or responsibility to tell other people what to do. However, there's one pet peeve I have related to shipping that I feel like ends up having snowball effect beyond the ship.
Y'know when people will ship two characters who aren't canonical together, with one of them even being in a relationship with someone else (or at least implied to be in the future). Now that's no problem and fairly normal when it comes to shipping. But what annoys me is when fans get weirdly insecure over the canon ship being canon thay they feel like they have to demonize the other romantic partner in order to justify their ship existing for some reason.
Like if someone wants two male characters to get together. Instead of just letting them be together, they have to make their canon female love interest a raging homophobe. Or if they want a different male and female couple to get together instead of the canon one, again they have to make the male love interest a misogynistic pig or the female love interest a conniving snake in order to "explain" why this pair is together instead.
And again, the only reason this annoys me is because it ends up infecting conversation and analysis regarding that love interest character. It turns who was once seen as a sweet, kind person who cares deeply about their friends into a "secretly evil" manipulator, solely for the fact that someone thought they got in the way of their ship.
Like we don't have to do that guys 😭. You can just ship the characters you like without having to throw already existing characters under the bus.
