Told my mom that I had to watch my gr grandma die long before she physically passed away because she had alzheimer's (and my gr grandpa had dementia and passed away even earlier than her), and she got reeeeeaaaaal mad hearing that. But like. It doesn't mean I didn't care about her well-being. It doesn't mean I didn't mourn her AGAIN when I was the one to pick up the phone and hear she passed away.

It just means I mourned her twice. The grief of someone dying while still alive. Apparently it means as a 12 year old, I was more emotionally cognizant of the difference than you as a current 60 year old.
