"Diz wants you dead.” The words hadn’t surprised her, but the cold spike in her chest that followed them did. “I’m not doing his dirty work. Go.” After working together for a year, the words had almost sounded like a plea, and so she obeyed. She’d stayed with Axel for a little bit, but in the end, he had something he was willing to die for, and she didn’t.
She kept running, never staying in the same place long. She slept in alleys and on benches, eating whatever she could find and disappearing through a portal when someone finally took notice. She’d been running from a man in a uniform, searching for somewhere to open a corridor, when she turned a sharp corner and crashed into someone.
