I just found your blog and it made me feel good that you've taken your time to help others with scoliosis. I've got a 50 degree curve between my shoulder blades and a 20 degree one in my lower back. My back hurts all the time. I've got to get an operation, I'm still waiting to hear back from the hospital on when it will be though... How did you deal with the pain of your's? How long did it take to heal after your operation?

Ah, thanks! Aw, that's a tough time.

Straight after the operation, they give you a lot of morphine and various pain killers and I actually don't remember being in ICU at all really now, just little irrelevant memories. So I think that helped with the pain a lot. I also used to like to do art to deal with the pain too, because it took my mind off it a bit. So I'd recommend doing what you like best that requires no movement, like reading a book, art, video games, DVDs or listening to music, perhaps. I'm not going to lie, it does hurt a lot even with all the pain killers and you can't even move without your back hurting in the few months after, there's no easy way around that fact. But it was so, so worth it looking back now, nearly four years later. I promise. So please try not to worry too much. My scar took about a year to heal properly and go white, but my spine took longer. It still hurt for a while, but ibuprofen helped me through it a lot. I'd say it took me about a year and a half, maybe three quarters, to have my back feeling mostly back to normal again. But the experience and timings are different from everyone! I hope everything goes well, and keep us updated with your progress!
