learning symbols in my flash class woo!
I would love to be involved in the next trials if there ever comes once! I assume its sort of like a group roleplay? If so, I'd love to join!
Yes there will be another one. Yes it is a group roleplay where the Tributes each write about killing eachother. You can probably understand better once The Bloodbath is released, which will be sometime next week.

By the way sorry for the late reply I haven't been on my computer very much these past couple of days
There was a flash.
"Goodbye, Calvin." echoed between his ears. He jumped a little at that--Tex had never talked to him when he wasn't floating in the tunnel of stars. Not that it mattered now, it seemed that that was the last he'd ever hear from the hot-headed young boy. For all he knew, the moment before was the last he'd ever see of life outside the Stone Kingdom. He was nervous of course, he was about to agree to a lifestyle he'd never wanted to get near with a man he'd sworn he'd never make contact with. What am I doing? He took in a deep breath, squeezing Joanna's hand tightly and looking to her for reassurance. She gave him a small smile and a short nod and he let out a sigh. Okay. He screwed his eyes shut, taking a deep breath. They were already inside the castle, it was just a matter of actually finding the king. He figured it wouldn't be terribly hard, especially once someone spotted them. "Hey, you're back!" That was quicker than he expected. His eyes shot open and flew in the direction of the voice. "So you thought about it?" Darren scampered up to him, eyes glowing like an excited child. "You're going to do it then? I mean why else would you be here, you're going to do it?" The man's grin stretched from ear to ear. It wasn't until then that he seemed to take notice of Joanna. "And who's this?" Cal scowled at the man without realizing it. "Look. I'll do it bu--" "I know you would! That's my b--!" He tried to hug Cal but the man stepped away. "I got conditions." "Of course, of course! Anything, name it!" Cal nodded towards Joanna. "First of all, she gets to stay." Darren nodded, putting his hand out to the girl, shaking hers fervidly. "You're welcome to stay as long as you want, miss!" Then to his son he lowered his voice. "She your girlfriend?" The orange haired man nodded. "Seems kinda young don't you think?" Cal let out an exasperated sigh. "Second of all, if things go too bad you gotta promise me we can get outta here," he eyed the older man suspiciously. "Can you promise that?" It was silent for a moment before Darren nodded again. "Okay and third of all, don' expect much." The king tilted his head at that one. "What do you mean?" "Iunno what I'm doin', I ain't gonna change overnight." He looked him in the eye. "So don' expect much." Darren's smile returned, growing wider slowly. "Don't you worry, son," he chimed. "You'll get the hang of it in no time."
"That is your name, isn't it? Calvin?"
Cal blinked a few times before slowly nodding. The man in front of him burst into a huge grin. "I knew it had to be you!" He went to try and give the younger man a hug but was shoved back. The guards came to attention. "He's fine, boys. You're dismissed." With a salute the men marched off. The moment they shut the door the sunny disposition fell from the older's face. He looked Cal up and down momentarily before taking the crown off his head and running his hand through his hair. "You sure grew up fast..." he sighed. Cal stayed silent. There was a moment of nothingness before the older man laughed nervously and gestured to Cal's arm. "I always told her you'd grow into my genes!" His smile seemed to broaden as he remembered fondly how often he'd reassured Michelle it'd happen. "...How is your mom...?" his voiced dropped a bit in volume. "Does...does she miss me?" "She died," Cal said flatly, his voice void of any emotion. "Fourteen years ago." Darren seemed as though he'd been physically hit. He stared ahead, searching his son's face for a different answer. When all he found was a stern look and crossed arms he bit his lip. "Michelle i-is...?" he managed after a long moment. "...How...?" The reply came just as bluntly and cold as the one before it. "Wolves." The king looked on in disbelief, his mouth hanging open slightly. "...What about your younger sibling?" he asked quickly. "Was it a boy or a girl?" He didn't know anything about Lilac; the thought earned a scowl. "Girl," Cal spat. "Her name's Lilac." "...Lilac..." Darren mumbled. "Where is she?" He craned his neck, looking around the man in front of him. "Why isn't she with you?" Cal fell silent again, his gaze dropping to the ground and all the anger draining from his face. "...She's...she's gone too." The older man stumbled backwards, reaching back for a nearby chair. He grasped the arm tightly as he sunk down. If Cal didn't know any better he would've sworn he watched a worry line carve itself into Darren's face. "Hurts, doesn't it?" he mumbled unsympathetically. "Findin' out that all you wanted's gone." "So you've been alone then?" The king looked up, pain screaming in his eyes. "For how long?" Cal had to look away. "Three years." "And you said Michelle...fourteen years ago? Who took care of you?" "I did. I took care of me and Lilac and we were fine, we were great in fact. Didn't need anyone's help." "Until three years ago." That felt like a stab in Cal's still fresh wound. "Yeah," he choked out, barely audible. "What happened to her?" More silence, no eye contact. Darren jumped to his feet and grabbed the younger boy by the shoulders. His grip was so tight Cal feared he might crush him. "Tell me!" Tears gathered in the corner of his eyes. "Hey--! Lemme go!" Cal tried to push him away to no avail. "You're lying, aren't you? You're lying to me!" "Why would I do that?!" He finally succeeded in pushing the man away, looking at him in disdain as he spat out his words. "What did you expect? That we'd be waiting at home for you so we could be a happy family almost twenty years later?! That village wasn't safe, Darren! You ran away and left us there, on our own, with no one to help us! And now, and I'm sorry to say it, I'm the only one who made it out! I'd give anything to have Mom or Lilac standing here instead of me!" "I didn't run!" Their tones were now matched; full-blown yelling tainted with regret. "I had to come back here! They forced me to; I didn't want to run this kingdom! If I hadn't gone they would have killed you and your mother!" Cal took a step back, hitting against the wall. "...What?" Darren deflated. "Tradition is the most important thing to these people," he explained slowly. "My older brother, your Uncle Stephen, he was already on the throne when I ran off and met your mom...I figured he'd meet someone and have some kids and I'd be in the clear...but then he was killed a few years after I'd gone. Tradition states that to rule the Stone Kingdom you've got to have the eyes..." He paused and chuckled sadly. "You've got them, Calvin." He was quiet for another moment before continuing. "I was the only one who could rule. So, even though I'd deserted the kingdom seven years before, they came after me and, well, I told you the rest." So everything his mother had said had been true. She wasn't just saying it to comfort them or to convince herself...it was true. Cal cleared his throat. "So now what, then?" Darren grinned widely suddenly, getting to his feet. "I was hoping you'd ask." He took a few steps towards the younger man. "Like I said, you've got the eyes! The royal eyes! They're not as out of place on you as they are on me but that's because of your mom. But half human or not they can't deny that you're my son, that you're royal blood!" His words dripped with spontaneous enthusiasm, seeming as though he'd been formulating this plan for years. "Think of all the things you could do, Calvin! This kingdom has been exactly the same from its start and I couldn't change it. But you, you could!" Childish excitement danced in his old eyes. "I'm getting too old for this job, son. But you..." Cal put his hands up. "Woah, woah, woah back it up!" He looked up at him in disbelief. "Hi, nice to meet you I'm your dad, wanna take over this kingdom full'a condescending rocks?!" "I never said they were condescending!" "I saw how they looked at me out there. They wouldn't want a human ruling them! And even that aside, I don't know how to run a kingdom! And what, I say I'll give it a shot and they lock me up in here? Or kill me? Or both? No, no, no I can't do that, I can't--" "Please!" Darren put his hand on Cal's shoulder and looked him straight in the eye. "I love this kingdom, I really do. There's just so much about it that needs to be different. I can't give it what it needs, Calvin. I can't give it that...refreshing diversity that it needs to change! Look, I know that it wouldn't mean much to you if I said 'do it for me' because that'd hold no merit, I know it, I couldn't be there for you. But what if I said do it because it's what's right." Cal laughed and ran his fingers through his hair, shaking his head. The sheer ridiculousness of his request was so astonishing that it made him an odd mixture of furious and amused. The more he thought about it though, the angrier he got. Where was he every time he'd needed him? How different could things have been if he'd fought a little harder? This man was never there for him, why should he suddenly be doing him favors five minutes after they'd met? Cal looked at him with an unbelieving grin before he began to walk towards the door. "This is ridiculous, this's jus'--unbelievable!" he laughed. "Calvin, wait!" As the door was shut behind him he heard four final words; "At least consider it!"
