So I just dropped $70 for a year of Dropbox Pro.

It hurts not because it's $70*. It hurts because this is the first time in my life I'm actually paying for software. I've been living on FOSS and developer trials until now. I've been a firm believer in the ad-based model, where access of software is the same to all who seek it. This freemium stuff makes me feel slimey. It makes me feel I could do just as well without it, even though that's not true.

But Heidi, says the hypothetical listener, aren't you a software engineer? Isn't trying not to pay for software... a bit hypocritical?

Why yes, sweet reader, it is.

Or it would be if I had an income right now. And I would have an income if Drexel got their shit together and wouldn't bill me for tuition when they owe me a scholarship. Or if those tax returns would come in soon please thank you.

Currently I have more money owed to me than what exists in my bank account. Basically that's the bottom line.

I also finally bought Sims 4 for $30 yesterday but that doesn't count because I bought it with credit card rewards points.

I wish I wasn't so capitalist all the damn time. Life was better when I legitimately cared for the wellbeing of humanity.

*$70 actually does hurt and would probably hurt less if it were less >.> However this is a yearly subscription so for a full year of cloud storage I guess it's worthwhile.
