The family of Nex Benedict is speaking out about the incomplete and premature medical examiner report released earlier this week, and releasing new information they have learned from the medical examiner “to ensure that other pertinent portions of the report are not overshadowed by the ‘classification’ of Nex’s death.”

In the statement from their attorney, the Benedict family says they felt compelled to release the new information to avoid allowing “incomplete accounts to take hold and spread any further.”

I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet, so this is Nex Benedict. They were a 16-year old nonbinary student in Oklahoma. They were beaten to death in a school bathroom by three girls.

Nex survived the initial attack, but school officials did not call an ambulance. School officials did not call Nex's parents. Nex was forced to wait until the end of the school day, and when their parents finally learned of their injuries, they were taken to the hospital. They died at the hospital the next day. School officials did not punish the students who beat Nex to death.

This is what hand wringing and panicking and whatabouting about trans kids and sports and bathrooms does. This is what laws targeting trans and nonbinary people do. This was a child.

Rest in Power, Nex. We are sorry. We will fight to get justice for you.
