Kly squinted at the person standing over her. She vaguely remembered seeing him at Haven during the fight, but it felt like more a blurred resemblance. He was young, or at least, he appeared to be young. There was something very...off. Not only in his appearance but in how he moved and how he spoke. She couldn’t place it though. It was only slightly different and unnatural, but perhaps that was the analgesics she’d been given. She took a deep breath to speak but gritted her teeth as another sharp shard of pain lodged itself in her chest. A healer came over to her and seemed to not notice him. And then he moved in a flash. Immediately, Kly thought she was still dead. Still talking to her demon. Nothing human moved like that. She flinched as he stood next to her, her eyes wary. This wasn’t her demon. No, this was something else. The healer checked her pulse and sent a soothing wave of pain-relieving magic through her body. Without her direction, her body sagged and relaxed, the tension in her body melting away despite her wariness of her “guest”.
She listened as she spoke and was, oddly enough, reminded briefly of Uldred and one of his lectures about creatures of the Fade. He made sure she was able to discern what was a real perception and what was an illusion before her Harrowing. He’d said something similar. That all Fade beings were hypersensitive to emotion, some were leeches and others were more symbiotic in nature. It was important, he told her, to be able to discern this as a blood mage since her connection to the Fade would be warped by such a raw and powerful form of magic. She wasn’t sure yet what this one was. He hadn’t yet latched onto her, so she was less convinced this was some demon.
“What are you?” she managed to ask. “Why are you here with me?” She took a moment to suck in a few breaths. “Am I dying again?”
